Health Concerns prides itself in high standards of herbal quality screening and (domestic) production methods. There's a link on their website to information on their QA policies (http://www.healthconcerns.com/qc/default.cfm). Andrew Gaeddert is often quite vocal on issues surrounding the illogic of the recent bans or other attacks on things like ephedra and kava kava. He takes strong stands of the principles, but in the end has reformulated some HC formulas with substitutions for the disputed or banned substances. For instance, in one newsletter, he detailed an analysis of the kava-kava issue, noting that solid evidence of liver toxicity was lacking (at least documented at the time). Namely that there are documented cases of large or overdoses of kava-kava which evidenced no liver damage, and, on the other hand, the data from cases in Germany associating kava-kava with liver toxicity failed to analyze the history of pharmaceutical usage in the questionable cases, and the possibility of liver toxicity therefrom. (For instance, translating to the context of a current issue, maybe some were taking double-doses of Lipitor, which claims to double the reduction of LDL cholesterol, BUT disproportionately increases liver damage.)
