Guest guest
Hi Group! I seem to have been called upon to become the local stop-smoking guru by my patients. I learned an overview of the NADA drug detox program in school, but have heard that specific body points are also used for stop smoking as well as alternative ear points. Would one use the mouth point and the lung point too? Also, Lu-1, Lu-7 and Lu-9? I'd like to know if there is a standard protocol that is successful for all of you out there. I'm also wondering about specific herbal formulas that can aid in the withdrawal from tobacco. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Christopher Vedeler L.Ac., C.Ht. Guest guest
Christopher: My first session with an acupuncturist years ago was to stop smoking, so I couldn't recall the specific points she used, but she was successful. I would imagine she used Taichong and a few other foot and ankle points on LI, she also punctured a couple of acupoints on the wrists, maybe Shenmen and Neiguan, with electric acupuncture. She followed this up with ear points, then taped seeds into the ear. These were especially helpful, as one may squeeze them each time one feels a nicotine urge. After 27 years of cigarettes, I switched to cigars for a month or two, then quit completely. This required two sessions. Regards, Jack --- " Christopher Vedeler, L.Ac. Guest guest
There are many ways to go about this and there's probably not just one correct way of doing it. I always do a full Dx on (any patient) the patient who wants to stop smoking and then treat whatever imbalances I might diagnose as well as always treating Lung Yin Xu, Lu heat and Lu phlegm (disregarding of signs and symptoms) using points such as Lu 7, Lu 9. I let the patient go home with seeds taped in one ear only using NADA protocol (I use the other ear on following treatment) as well as giving the patient DeTox Thea to drink three times a day (morning, midday, evening). The earseeds are to be stimulated till warm and/or sore three times daily as well as when the urge to smoke appears. The reason why I do a full Dx and Tx is to counter any aggrevation of underlying imbalances; ie tonifying Sp Qi in a Sp Qi Xu pattern trying to prevent in worsening due to too much speculation from quitting to smoke and what have we. Usually patients are treated 3-5 times, but some only needed one treatment and others need more. It tends to work really well (9/10 I treat in this way are succesfull in quitting smoking) as well as patients receving treatments are likely to return for other purposes of treatments later on seeing that ie their digestion has become better, etc. during course of treatment for quitting smoking. Hope this helped. Guest guest
The NADA protocol for detox treatments is available here http://www.yinyanghouse.com/auricular/aurnada.html as well as more info on NADA is available here: http://www.nadauk.com/ I recommend going through NADA training though since it is quite beneficial to know details and background on detox treament to be succesful for more than just for helping people to stop smoking. I went through it myself and had great benefit from it - it expanded my view on ie benzodiazepins, their sideeffects and withdrawal symptoms. You will be surprised to see how many patients suffering from fibromyalgia whose symptoms can be releived or even cured if they are taken off benz.... well...got sidetracked there... One good DeTox Tea is available from Celestial Seasonings (Ayurvedic) and there are probably a few Chinese formulas to help detox out there also. Hope this helped Best regards Thomas Sorensen L.Ac., TuiNa Massage Therapist Brian Hardy wrote: >Could you give us the NADA protocol and the source where to purchase the detox tea >Thanks >Brian > >Thomas Bøgedal Sørensen <thomasboegedal wrote: >There are many ways to go about this and there's probably not just one >correct way of doing it. Guest guest
Any suggestions of getting certified as a Trainer. I am certified as a NADA acudetox specialist, I think that is the title. Guest guest
Dr. Keikobad, I don't know how it works in the states - I received my training in Denmark by NADA Denmark... I suggest to call the NADA office at 1-888-765-NADA to enquire further about becoming a licensed trainer. Hope this helps.
