Guest guest
Hi Ann, > > Hi Butch and all > Just a wee correction if I may! > > >UK .. Robin Cook resigned in protest of Tony Blair going to war > >without the blessings of the UN. > > and without international agreement Which is the agreement of the UN .. which could NEVER have been obtained because France was adamant about vetoing ANY resolution that would lead to war .. they made that clear .. so even an agreement of 9 + votes in the UN would have not been effective. > and without the agreement of the British people (the latter being > the most important in a democracy IMO) I disagree .. but that's what democratic forms of government are all about. First, I'm glad that America is a Republic and not a Democracy. Our congress .. both sides .. who are elected to represent our people in a " democratic " forum .. are in support of the government actions. Secondly, I think that the people are not always in a position to have all the facts .. nor do they have the need to know in some cases, and it would be very chaotic if we had a referendum each time the government wanted to take an action .. whoever gets 51% gets their way. Means .. if 51% were against an issue that affected national security we would be in deep kimchi. Finally, I'm glad that the disenfranchised British citizens of the American colonies didn't listen to the anti-war voices in Boston Commons when they went against Fat Farmer German George's Redcoats back in 1776. But .. as I said earlier .. there will be a lot of crow eating in time. Mayhaps Tony Blair and Jack Straw will eat crow .. mayhaps others. I watched Robin Cook's speech .. and I think he was about as sincere as anyone can be and still be wrong. I didn't appreciate his comment that if Al Gore had won we wouldn't be in the position we are in now .. that was uncalled for and I personally hope its he that eats the crow. > Regards > Ann And to you. And keep smiling. :-D Butch

Guest guest
I'm trying to not get into this but I just can't leave this one alone. Didn't you hear the poll (among other statistics) 70% of Americans agree with going into Iraq. And I dare you to find 5 newscasts about the pro-President, pro-troops (and I would add pro-Iraq) rallies. You sure can get that nearly in one broadcast with the " peace " rallies. Just had to say that and now I will go back to being a lurker.
