Guest guest
Good Day Everyone, I am wondering what your opinions are on the following oils, please. Specifically do you use them, what you use them for, how effective are they and how available are they? Borage oil (Borago officinalis L.) Camelina oil (Camelina sativa) Carrot oil (macerated)(Daucus carota L. ssp sativis) Castor oil(Ricinus communis) Meadowfoam oil (Limnathes alba) Tamanu oil (Calophyllum inophyllum) Walnut oil (Juglans regia) TIA, ===== Cheryl Smith A Heavenly Body 204 Muldoon Road Anchorage AK 99504 The New Search - Faster. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, I use a couple of them. Castor oil is readily available and I use a low percentage in some soaps for small-bubbled, creamy, stable lather. It is also supposed to help anchor the scent. Walnut I use in some soaps, I find it very rich and moisturizing on my skin in soap, particularly when paired with shea butter. I think it tends to go rancid faster than some oils, though. Meadowfoam -- I am waiting for my first shipment of this to arrive, and I ordered it b/c I have read wonderful things about its stability, and also its ability to bring out the best qualities in whatever oils you pair it with. I plan on trying it first in body butters. I think any of these are readily available from reputable suppliers on the internet. Hope this helps! Snip >Meadowfoam -- I am waiting for my first > shipment of this to arrive End of Snip I would be very interested in your experiments with the meadowsfoam when you get it. Also I appreciate your responses about the Castor and Walnut. End of Snip Do you essential oils with those two oils in your soaps? Thanks, ===== Cheryl Smith A Heavenly Body 204 Muldoon Road Anchorage AK 99504 The New Search - Faster. Easier. Guest guest
Yes, I only use essential oils in my soaps, so that's what's in 'em! Guest guest
I'm curious about this oil. My father spent some time in Samoa and returned with tamanu wood (which is gorgeous wood, and I made part of my grandfather clock out of) At that time (50 years ago) it was very expensive wood and only available in the south pacific. Does anyone know if this is the kind of tree that you get this oil from? Just curious. Karen J > > Tamanu oil (Calophyllum inophyllum) > Love it- seems to be very stable...
