Hi again,

I am studying carrier oils and have posted a lot

of questions either here or on the atfe list.

I have another one that I have come across and

would like opinions on.

Macerated Carrot Oil (Caucus carota L. ssp

sativis)

In Len Price's " Carrier Oils for Aromatherapy &

Massage " , I read that the root of the carrot is

what is used to obtain the carrier oil.

Quote: " The production of macerated carrot oil

requires expert attention. The root of the carrot

is chopped up into small pieces and left to steep

in a vegetable oil - usually sunflower oil - with

some agitation., for about three weeks. The

material is then filtered to produce a clear

orange colored liquid known as carrot oil.

Organic sunflower oil is frequently used as the

medium for maceration. " End Quote

Has anyone tried this? If so, what have been the

results? How does it work in blends? Does it have

to be added to another carrier oil or can it be

used alone?

Also, has anyone reviewed this book? I would

greatly appreciate opionions and/or a review of

the book. If you know of a website that a review

is posted on that would be appreciated also.

TIA,

Hi Cheryl:

I have a friend who did this with his carrots. He cut them up in round, thin

slices first, I think, not sure of the shape, dehydrated them, and then steeped

them in a carrier oil but don't know which one of the carrierss he used. He

told me his came out very orange and said you could really smell the carrot in

the oil. He believes it worked but I don't really know how successful his

experiment was. He is using it, though, and seems very pleased with it.

Hi Jenn,

Thank you very much. I am wanting to try this

but wanted to see if the info was correct.

As Butch says: Aromatherapy books are novels and

have errors.

I figure the only way to know is to ask.
