One would think with as much poison oak as I have here

in my woods that I would have jewelweed. NOPE. Mom

found some " somewhere " and purchased it for me. It's

been " closet " infused for about a year now, ready for

the first rash of summer.

Good luck in your search.

Good morning all:

I have a request. I've searched all over for fresh jewelweed and can't find it

anywhere. I guess in the state of Oregon, we just don't have any of it. Is

there someone out here on our list that would happen to have any fresh I can buy

? Maybe I could " start some here as well with some fresh roots " . I don't know,

but am sure willing to try.

Thanks,

Jenn in Or.

Jewelweed is an annual and I doubt you will be able to get it fresh as it is a

very tender plant. However, you can try growing it.

Jewelweed - Impatiens biflora - Annual - This North American woodland plant had

distinctive orange-yellow pendulous flowers and is an affective treatment for

poison ivy. Juice from the leaves can be spread over an area of skin with a

poison ivy rash to greatly reduce the affect of the toxins in poison ivy and

soothe the itch. It can also be added to soaps to produce a good ivy-fighting

wash. The plant very often can be found growing in the same area as poison ivy,

and prefers a moist shady location with rich soil. Partial to full shade; plant

height: 3-4ft.

Aha, Neysa to my rescue here. Thanks hon, I really have been looking all over

for some fresh but was told it doesn't grow in Oregon at all. Don't know why

but that's what I've been told.

Thank you so much,

Jenn

We have little jewelweed if any here in SC but I plan to get some seed and just

randomly sow it in a damp shady area. Since it comes back from seed being

dropped I thought I would do it as casually as possible. When I lived in Ohio it

was everywhere. I gathered and boiled it, made ice cubes and stored them in the

freezer for when I needed them. You have colder winters than we have so it may

just grow there while it may not here for our winters being milder. However, I

am going to give it a try!! :))

It may be that it doesnt grow there because it was never seeded there.
