Guest guest
One would think with as much poison oak as I have here in my woods that I would have jewelweed. NOPE. Mom found some " somewhere " and purchased it for me. It's been " closet " infused for about a year now, ready for the first rash of summer. Good luck in your search. Guest guest
Good morning all: I have a request. I've searched all over for fresh jewelweed and can't find it anywhere. I guess in the state of Oregon, we just don't have any of it. Is there someone out here on our list that would happen to have any fresh I can buy ? Maybe I could " start some here as well with some fresh roots " . I don't know, but am sure willing to try. Thanks, Jenn in Or. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Jewelweed is an annual and I doubt you will be able to get it fresh as it is a very tender plant. However, you can try growing it. Jewelweed - Impatiens biflora - Annual - This North American woodland plant had distinctive orange-yellow pendulous flowers and is an affective treatment for poison ivy. Juice from the leaves can be spread over an area of skin with a poison ivy rash to greatly reduce the affect of the toxins in poison ivy and soothe the itch. It can also be added to soaps to produce a good ivy-fighting wash. The plant very often can be found growing in the same area as poison ivy, and prefers a moist shady location with rich soil. Partial to full shade; plant height: 3-4ft. #769 Packet $2.50, Approximately 50 seeds http://www.richfarmgarden.com/jewelweed.html Good luck! We have little jewelweed if any here in SC but I plan to get some seed and just randomly sow it in a damp shady area. Since it comes back from seed being dropped I thought I would do it as casually as possible. When I lived in Ohio it was everywhere. I gathered and boiled it, made ice cubes and stored them in the freezer for when I needed them. You have colder winters than we have so it may just grow there while it may not here for our winters being milder. However, I am going to give it a try!! ) It may be that it doesnt grow there because it was never seeded there. Hugs Neysa
