Rose,

Recertified? I wasn't aware there was recertification necessary in

California. Has something changed? Please fill me in.

Thanks, Sherry, CMT, RT

Hello Sherry,

You are correct. There is no required certification in California. However, for

local ordinances and for some insurance purposes, continuing ed may be

beneficial. I was looking at this site http://www.abmp.com under Career

Information and State Board Requirements and it gives me one more reason to be

greatful for living in sunny California.

In my newpaper ad they have a section for MT or CMT's. I pay the same rate as

uncertified massage therapists. I do continuing education classes whenever I

get the time, for both my clients health and my own fulfillment. I chose Dr.

Ticen because he is into healing energy work and is so well known in Calistoga

Napa and Sonoma counties.

Thanks,

Rose, CMT, ABMP

Rose,

I have a question. You mentioned Healing energy. My son had a friend who was

a Reki (sp) Master and they practice something with healing energy. Is there

any similarities. I don't know to much about it. Maybe this is a dumb

question.

My son has aids and he went through a healing energy ceremony (for lack of a

better word) and he said he really did feel better afterwards.

Hello Evelyn,

It is not a dumb question at all; Reiki and massage bodywork gets the healer

involved or emerged in body energy thus, becoming aware of the electro-magnetic

currents of the body. Some of us can re balance the energy field in others and

help them regain a sense of well-being eliminating their dis-ease.

I know what you mean about the healing energy ceremony because I go to healing

energy workshops through the Berkeley Psychic Institute. They offer various

healing at different times at their Santa Rosa location next to the Church of

Divine Man.

There's a couple great books, two by Bernie Siegel author of Hands of Light and

Love, Medicine and Miracles. Also, Sylvia Browne always amazes me. Reading,

Other Side and Back and Book of Angels are my daily inspiration.

Hugs,

Thanks for answering Rose. This friend of my son's was a very interesting

person and we talked about Reiki some. He moved away and we aren't sure exactly

where he moved to. I hadn't ever heard of it before I met Zack. He was what

they call a Reiki Master. I'm sure you know what that entails more than I do.

My son and I have moved energy for a number of folks with AIDS/HIV as well

as advanced cancer.... all benefited. Some we worked on a couple of times a

week for months.

Suspending exprectations and judgment is critical.

Dear Rose,

I'm a Reiki 1, never went on with the rest. Lack of time.

One night at a class they worked on me. I felt relaxed, but didn't know how

well it worked. When I got home, I realized I didn't have any pain, from head

to toe.

It was so odd, as I'm always in pain. Of course the pain was back the next

morning.

Maybe some day I should get back to it.

Rose,

Well, good ;o) I would hate to think that with more than 600 of formal

training I would need to re-certify for any reason. There's been talk of

state certification for CMTs in California for years. I'm glad to know

there isn't one yet. It would be meaningless anyway with the measly 110

hour requirement their talking about.

Thanks, Sherry

I know that there are some that would say that it is all hogwash and just a

trick of the mind but I don't believe that. The human body is an amazing

machine. It has many mechanical and moving parts that need tending much like an

automobile. However, Unlike the auto we just can't go the the local dealership

and have them order a new part. So we just need some fine tuning. That is what

I liken this to. It's a fine tuning of the body and spirit to get all the

energy working in synchronization. How is that for an analogy. I know that

simplifies things somewhat but it does make a tremendous amount of sense to me.
