Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone here belongs to any toiletry organizations, such as the Handmade Beauty Network, or the Handcrafted Soap Makers Guild, etc ... and how much benefit you feel you get from it. Would you recommend joining to others? I hope everyone had a nice weekend! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com

By all means join us with the Texas group (TXSA), great value for small investment. Margie
Guest guest
I belong to the Handcrafted Soap Maker Guild. They are having some difficulties and have been since I have been a member, but I don't believe in dropping out when the going gets tough, so I renewed my membership in their guild. I am getting to be more active in it and I have kudos to those who take the time and effort to help with the conferences. I went to the last one in Tucson and it was great. I am looking forward to the one in Dallas in March. I think there is a wealth of good information in any good guild, but sometimes it is difficult to find...hmmm more info that anyone wanted to know perhaps. Guest guest
Chris- As you know, Graham and I are here in Tucson, and we thought about going to the HSMG conference last year, but the cost of tickets was OUTRAGEOUS! And I thought NAHA was bad, but these were over $500! Well, we did go over one afternoon to see the trade show part, and I can tell you, if I had paid for that, I would have been a bit ticked if one room of maybe 10 vendors was the whole thing! We also talked to one of the vendors/presenters for quite a while, she is someone we know well, and I have had private email conversations from someone else who was higher up in the guild... And all I can say, is that on the strength of those two conversations, I wouldn't want to waste my money on membership. Again, the HSMG make the recent events in NAHA look like child's play. Guest guest
I agree with you, Linda about the price being way too high, (however, it was 265.00 for attendees, not vendors). There were far too few vendors, and that is what we are working on for this next year, to get the price more in line, and try to get more vendors. Unfortunately, some of the vendors that were there last year were not there full time, and that was not good either. There are growing pains that I hope will be able to be resolved. Every organization has its problems, some more than their fair share, but hopefully, that will be able to be resolved. Guest guest
Thanks Linda for your comments. Yes, this past year was not the best that I believe it could have been. The conference went for 1/2 day on Sunday, so I believe they didn't plan on vendors setting up past that. I am aware of the finger pointing of corruption in the group, and I am sincerely hoping that we can take care of that. Until that time, I'll just do my best to provide help until I can't stand it anymore myself. Yes, I meant it would have been over 500 for the two of us to attend. Don't have any idea about the vendors, as that wasn't something I was checking into. There were far too few vendors, > and that is what we are working on for this next year, to get the price > more in line, and try to get more vendors. One of the vendors told us that the room where the vendors were located this past year was booked at mid-day Sunday for a wedding! So they had to pack everything up mid-day, didn't even get the full day to sell their product. There are growing pains that I hope will be able to be > resolved. In the meantime, between them and NAHA, I have heard a lot of tales of mismanagement and corruption that make me want to avaid such organizations like the plague!
