Guest guest
Hi, I just joined the group on the recommendation of a friend who told me this was the place for info on essential oils and healing oils. My son (14yo) just had an emergency appendectomy this weekend and his wound is healing nicely but he is the active type. Other than his appendix he is a perfectly healthy teen who doesn't take any meds and has no known allergies to anything. I would like to use something natural to help him heal just a little faster if possible so there won't be any problems with him moving around a little. Right now there is no infection, the doctors say he is healing so well that he came home a day early. After his wound is healed and the stitches come out I want to keep the scar down since he gets keloid scars on most of his cuts, chicken pox (when 6yo), etc. He gets white scars and he tans easily so they stand out very strongly. I would appreciate any info on what to use. I have only a few EOs since I mostly make soap and didn't want to have EOs sitting on a shelf until I needed them. I have patchouli, rosewood, rose geranium, ylang ylang, lemongrass, bergamot, and juniper berry. I also have an assortment of oils for soapmaking including fractionated coconut, raw shea butter, refined mango butter, kokum butter, emu oil, macadamia nut oil, kukui oil, and cocoa butter. There are more fixed oils than I can list right now but I thought those would be the best to mention for healing. I don't know if I should use these without beeswax or make them into a " stick " form for spreading easily onto the scar after the wound heals. Is there anything I should use to wash the wound, neem oil was mentioned on one website. I really need some help here. My son says that if the scar stays then he will " tell the ladies he was run through by a sword " , lol. Such a gentleman. TIA for any and all help, Annette

If it were me I'd start with using an Echinacea decoction as a fomentation. Maybe some time after the deep surgical wound was healed I'd use something like comfrey, but starting that too soon is no good cause it will cause the skin tissue to heal too quickly, healing the outer layers before the deeper layers have a chance to heal properly, and that can cause problems. > I would appreciate any info on what to use. The best oil blend I can think of for preventing/fading scars is: helichrysum and lavender in rose hip seed oil and maybe some cocoa butter. That'd be used after the skin is healed and sealed.
