Guest guest
Hi everyone. My doc's suspecting that I may have adult onset ADD/ADHD and is suggesting I try Ritalin. I know there are other ways to treat ADD/ADHD in kid . . . anyone know anythig about this? I'd sure like to explore non-pharmaceutical options before jumping on the Ritalin bandwagon. Combine that with deep breathing at least two times a day. Also use calming meditative energy as you go to sleep. ADD/ADHD may have many causes, but the lack of 'mindfulness' or scatter-brained-ness :-) is best remedied by working on calming the confusion, and meditation is the best for that. As far as herbs or oils, many would recommend 'grounding' oils like vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood. I like those, but I like florals and herbals, too, for grounding and relaxation. Back to the meditation -- you can use positive thinking with it, and try to condition yourself to focus and pay attention. Guest guest
I do not know why Doctor would suggest Ritalin for an adult as it is a stimulant in adults...it works opposite in Children until puberty ...as a sedative...I would check anything and everything prior to Ritalin...My Oldest Son was suppose to be put on this at age 7 as the teachers could not get his attention or keep his attention....I refused....he was nothing more than bored and needed his mind stimulated...he is now 25 and working on his Bach degree in psychology a double major and on the Deans list every semester...Ritalin would have changed him completely as I have seem others who in his class took it...they would be lined up down the hall at the nurses station to get their meds...this was to help the teachers not the children~ I hope you can talk to another Doc for a suggestion...even trying herbal teas that calm....I have had ADD or any other name they want to put on a photogenic mind where I see many pictures in my mind all at once this makes it hard to focus and hard to concentrate on just one..meditation and calming myself has worked fine for me~Most likely you are nothing more than. ...Brilliant~ Good luck~ ---- Thursday, October 09, 2003 02:52:23 PM Adult ADD/ADHD Hi everyone. Guest guest
I agree that an adult shouldn't be on ritalin. However disagree with the kids part. Although doctors for the last 10 yrs or so are too quick to put anyone on meds. My son was on ritalin when he was 4.5 to 6 yo. Then I took him off, because *I* felt guilty and that he was too young. During this time, I put him on the Feingold diet, the allergy diet, the screaming and nagging diet and the no sugar diet. The allergy diet was the worst. He went back on at age 8 at the insistence of his psychologist. He was WAY out of hand and out of control. He was doctor certified hyperactive, not mother certified or teacher certified. With ritalin, he was able to focus better, and calm down. He went from 3rd grade to 5th grade in 3 months and at age 28, he has served our country, is in college full time and working full time. There's not a thing wrong with him that ritalin caused. Warm regards, Janine Phariss www.BlueSageNaturals.com Healthy Skin ~ Happy Bodies! Guest guest
An involved parent knows their child better than anyone else. Stay involved and be an active part of the decision process. Know what you decided and why. It's the 'should've could've would've that'll get you everytime.
