Hi y'all,

Cheryl and Linda and Kathleen and Marge and Janine .. and probably others have

commented on this .. and I'm not sure I'm getting all my mail (as I don't know

who is

moving to Korea) .. so not much I can add except:

1. Congratulations on being assigned to any overseas location .. make the best

of it

and it will be a

most rewarding experience. Of course .. that doesn't apply to duty on the DMZ.

;-p

2. Kimchi is (as Kathleen said) a dish you will love or hate .. I love it

myself and

even make it now.

Its easy .. Chinese cabbage (Wong Bak .. or regular cabbage if you can't get it)

and

lots of garlic and

onions and other goodies. But I don't bury mine in the ground .. I put it in a

gallon jar in the

refrigerator for a week or so .. its sorta dry going in but after a few days

its

made its own liquid.

Not something you want to eat when you're going out to a party .. less'n you

happen

to be in Korea. ;-)

3. You are gonna learn the meaning of " Slicky Boy " .. but the folks there (and

your

sponsors) will

show you the ropes so there should be no concern. There will be certain folks

who

" prey " on the

foreigners and others who offer a good deal for a fair price. Best it is to

shop

where the locals

shop .. and all the locals will be happy to show you where they shop .. but

there is

a possibility

that they will be on commission .. so better to listen to the foreigners who

have

been there a while.

This holds true for many countries .. including Turkey.

4. No Sweatee Da .. you'll learn to use that term .. ;-p on getting EO to

Korea ..

if you have an

APO or FPO address then shipping is super cheap .. you pay to San Francisco then

Uncle Sugar picks up

the rest of the tab. But if you don't have Logistics Support and have to use a

local

address there is

also no problem .. at least my Korean customers don't think there is and I have

a lot

of them.

Again .. I congratulate you on the move .. I think you will not regret it. All

experiences are of

great value .. methinks .. even the down times are good times. But you will

have a

chance to look at

and perhaps immerse yourself in a very old and proud culture. :-p

Many of my friends have adopted Korean children after serving there .. so they

really

got the best of

their tours.

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
