Guest guest
Hi, I think Tarkan got his own website, a very clean and nice site btw, I am impressed! http://www.tarkan.com/ BTW, you can listen to Dudu there gang I am not too sure of his music (until now), just don't get a chance to hear too much Turkish music anymore (well since 1983 that is). Baris was one of my favorites when I was in Turkey -- he was one of a kind! However since I crave Arabesque, I listen to Ofra Haza. Sevi .......................................... Guest guest
Hey Jen, > > > Hey Butch! > > > I can answer that as I'm a big Toby Keith fan... > > > > Me too .. and a few million other folks .. to include a lotta Turks. > > Yes, but how many Americans are Tarkan fans??? Not that many fer'shur .. most Americans are sorta isolated from life outside the USA. Tarkan (Turkish rock/pop Elvis class fame) is the hottest thing going in Europe .. he has sold gold records in most every European country. Many Americans like Arabesque music .. and Turkish Folk music. I hand carried over a dozen CDs to folks during this last trip. Chris has a good collection she purchased during one of her trips to Turkey .. and after I took her and her girlfriend to a REAL Turkish garden party .. that is, where the locals came to a guy's farm and we sat on the ground and cooked chicken and lamb and ate the fruits and veggies from that garden .. while locals played Saz and Cymbals and Drum and sang Ottoman Pop and Folk songs, she even bought a Saz and learned to play it. ;-p > I'm positive that he would be more of a success in the sates, but for > the title of his album - " Dudu. " The title would not attract folks. ;-p Problem with foreign singers becoming hot in the USA is censorship .. American radio shows stick with songs they want to promote. Generally speaking. Americans are NOT really international characters. > (For those of you who wonder what the heck I'm talking about, Tarkan > is a Turkish pop star... ) And hotter'n a two dollar pistol. ;-p > Here's a link : http://tarkanplace2001.tripod.com/ Glad you sent that. :-p Some other famous Turkish singers are: Baris Manco (RIP) was an international troubadour, a music ambassador, a man who refused to let down his public when the parties tried to get him to run for political office .. and a close, personal friend of mine. I have a number of his signed albums. He was a kind, gentle and talented man who will never be forgotten by the people of Turkey or by those whose lives he touched in many other nations of the world: http://www.angelfire.com/biz2/barismanco/baris12.html Sezen Aksu, who is considered to be the Queen of Turkish music, launched Turkish pop music at a time when most singers were singing translated versions of Julio Iglesias. http://efes.com/turkiye/sezen/sezen.html Sibel Can, a fox who is truly a classy Babe of the Bosphorus http://sibelcan1.tripod.com/ Hulya Avsar, who volunteered to sing at a charity function I hosted in the early 1990s http://hulyaavsar0.tripod.com/ I fell in love with her when she invited me and a friend into her dressing room to discuss that event .. she had on a robe, wet hair and no makeup .. and was beautiful even under those conditions. I am still in love with her .. will be I reckon till I go under snakes. ;-p Perhaps the most famous singer/actor of all time was Zeki Muran .. a famous gay who came out of the closest in the early 50s and was so good that even ultra-right conservatives and the handful of hard-core Moslems were his fans. http://www.zekimuren.com/ My favorite female singer of all time .. and another one I have been in love with since I first saw and heard her in 1964 (she is around 65 now and a FOX) is Adja Pekan .. the illustrious lady who brought movement to Turkish lady singers. She still records and if you see her photos (can't find one now) you would think she was in her early 40s. She's much like Dolly Parton in that she has been " fixed " a few times. But what's there is fine enough to make a puppy pull a freight train. ;-p Omer Karagoz http://members.tripod.com/~okaragoz/ is into Arabesque And there are many, many more who sing in many languages and are very popular throughout Europe. f you wanna hear some Turkish music .. just go here: http://www.pas.rochester.edu/~yildirim/musicturkish.htm OR here: http://www.turkish-media.com/en/music_sites.htm > JenB Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
