" That's all well and good...BUT..don't you need amino acids and protiens etc from meat ( I mean you can only get certian ones from meat ) I would love to go " meatless " myself, just curious.."

Actually, no...if you want to get really picky, Americans eat TOO MUCH protein!

Do your own research! A good place to start would be the book "Diet for a Small Planet," by Frances Moore Lappe. In the earlier editions, she stressed something called "protein combining," but later research showed this is NOT necessary for optimal health.

Of all the amino acids, I believe eight are considered essential, meaning the human body cannot manufacture them. We need to get those from foods. Animals and animal products are "complete" proteins, meaning we can get all the essential amino acids from them.

These amino acids ARE available through plant sources, too.

Plant sources have additional benefits: NO CHOLESTEROL! And most plant sources of protein also include FIBER.

We've been brainwashed by the Atkins movement and other "low carb" hype. I fully believe that twenty years from now, there will be epidemics of heart disease and colon disease because of all the folks who jumped on the Atkins bandwagon. Their arteries will be filled with globs of cholesterol, and their colons will be filled with cancer.

A great online resource of Vegetarian and Vegan information is the webzine "Vegetarians In Paradise," at www.vegparadise.com
