Is it possible to be allergy to mascara? I don't wear makeup very

often, when I do it is usually just mascara.

I am okay for a couple hours then my eyes start to itch, and of

course I rub and then I end up with raccoon eyes.

So my daughter and I were wondering if I might be allergy to the

mascara. Has anyone else had this problem?

Christine :-)

Hmmmmm.... 2 friends of mine have both recently had the same thing

happen with mascara...it makes me wonder if some of the cosmetic

companies haven't reformulated their mascaras by adding new chemicals

to them?? If it's a mascara brand you've used before without a

problem, you could e-mail/phone the mfr and ask them.....if they did

reformulate, ask for the ingredient(s) they added/changed, so you

know to avoid them in other stuff too.

If you are using " conventional " mascara, and you haven't tried a chem-

free brand, I would highly recommend it, if you wish to continue

using mascara tho. (chem-free cosmetics/skin/hair care too!) They

put SO many toxic chems in conventional products nowadays, and

allergies to them continue to rise. Reading and deciphering

ingredient labels was quite an education for me for sure.... The

most common reactions (whether irritant or allergic) are to the

chemical colors, chemical fragrances, and chemical pesticides (anti-

microbial preservatives) they use.....

After alot of research, allergy testing, and

experimentation/detective work testing reactions to chemical

ingredients, I got rid of all the chem stuff several years ago, and

was suprised at the difference in my skin... I had no idea so many

irritant and allergic-type reactions were from the chems in the

products I was using before that.

Since the body does absorb the chemicals applied to the skin, it is

just as important to be aware of what goes on it, as it is to what

goes in it, just as with eating organic foods. (IMHO) :)

Just my 2 cents....(fwiw)
