I'm more efficient than I thought... I had printed out the recipe and filed it! Here it is, word-for-word what Zeb wrote:

 

A syrup is 1 part alcoholic extract of an herb mixed with 2 parts honey or corn syrup. The purpose is to make less palatable herbal remedies a bit easier to take.

 

To make your own, place enough of the alcoholic herbal extract in a canning jar and fill it 1/3 full. Add enough honey or corn syrup to the herb extract to fill the jar completely. Stir the mixture and transfer it to dark glass containers with non-metallic lids or stoppers. The shelf life is not more than 2 years when properly stored.

 

Dosages are now dispensed accordingly: 1 tsp tincture is equal to 1 tbs syrup. The measured dose for syrup is triple as for herbal remedies referring to tincture doses. (1 tsp tincture = 3 tsp syrup)

 

 

So what you do is buy figs and prunes and you tincture them in alcohol using the '1 part herb, 1 part liquid, 2 part herb' formula. Make sure you blend it up well. The more dry the herb, the more likely you'll need to add alcohol mix to it. Make sure alcohol is 100 proof. The files describe making a tincture; if you'd like more on that let me know.

 

The tincture sits for no less than 2 weeks, and usually lasts a lot longer than 2 years. As mentioned above, once the tincture is added to the honey it lessens the life span to 2 years TOPS. Remember that you can make tons of tincture, but it's the syrup you need to really think out in case you make too much.

Thanks Tracy for the reply.. I also had a recipe to make the syrup some time back and now can not find it.. It would be nice to find a place that sold the syrups. But I can make the Fig syrup if only I had a recipe.. If I do find one I'll post it for you.. But until then I'm praying someone will answer my post to help me out. Thank you very much for posting this recipe. I had not found this

one before. Yes I would like more information on how to make this

tincture.. also I'm not sure on the '1 part herb, 1 part liquid, 2

part herb' formula.. also I have not used the honey or corn syrup

before but have used Glycerine. I've made a tincture using 1 part

herb and 2 part acl. not sure if I'm understanding it right.. :-)

Hello Eibhlin! I have not yet made this myself; the offer for more information are Zeb's words (the original poster, and one of the group mods). And I wasn't sure about the '1 part herb, 1 part liquid, 2 part herb' formula either... maybe someone can clue us in! lol
