Guest guest
Hi Jason, I thought you might be interested to know that the World Health Organization published a list of 4 categories of research that had been done on acupuncture. These show the conditions for which acupuncture has been shown to be effective from the most evidence to the least. Depression was in their #1 list; " Diseases, symptoms, or conditions for which acupuncture has been proved - through controlled clinical trails - to be an effective form of treatment. " The link to their website listing these four is: http://www.who.int/medicines/library/trm/acupuncture/clinicreportsacupuncture.sh\ tml Sorry I do not have any references to the studies they used to determine depression should make their most stringent list. - Matt Bauer - jason davies Chinese Medicine Monday, August 01, 2005 11:56 PM RE: Â acupuncture and depression can anyone please point me to some links on acupuncture in the treament of depression - research articles and / or commentaries. i have been asked to give a talk to local GPs and a more general public talk and am trying to gather a broad base of ideas and articles. thanks in advance jason davies
Guest guest
Hi Matt & others The studies they use to back up their grouping into these 4 groups are all listed in the document itself (freely downloadable at the link you gave below). Just download the word document or PDF file for free. Then check out pages 37 and 38 (at least these are the pages in the PDF file) for depression and use the numbers in parentheses to look up the full title of the studies in the Appendix at the back. It's all there. Guest guest
Thanks David - it had been so long since I first read the WHO's full report, I forgot all that was in it. - Matt - David Gordon Chinese Medicine Wednesday, August 03, 2005 4:07 PM Re: Â acupuncture and depression Hi Matt & others The studies they use to back up their grouping into these 4 groups are all listed in the document itself (freely downloadable at the link you gave below).
