Guest guest
Hi Eric (Brand), Tom (Verhaeghe), and others After months of searching, I've just found a website selling the (apparently complete) " Zhongyi Yaoxue Gaoji Congshu " and " Zhongyi Jichu Heshi Tubiaojie Congshu " series at reasonable prices - some bookshops tried to rip me off big time. This site is based in Beijing; even though they charge 100% on top of their list prices for postage (1-2 months), I've found them much cheaper than other US sites. And they're very helpful by email. http://www.lovemandarin.com ; go to " Professional Materials " - " Herbal & Health Care " and then click on the " More new products " in the link at the bottom of the page. This takes you to the entire list. The English names of the books are a nightmare; You have to click on the links to go to the Chinese characters to work out what the books are about. And the prices are somewhat misleading; you have to look at the 'Membership price' and, in your mind, insert " USD " in front. Nonetheless, chinese-learning practitioners of TCM in the West might find this a valuable resource. Guest guest
David, prices are reasonable indeed- do they include shipping? Alternatively, you could email a university (like Nanjing or Shanghai) and ask them to send you the books. Surface mail from China is really cheap. And you should be able to get the domestic prices for the books. I believe there are over 20 books in the whole gaoji series, the list on the website you mentioned is not complete. Still, a lot to read already... Let me know if you need help contacting the universities. I just received a few parcels from China, carrying 5 tdp lamps. I paid 400 euro for the five lamps (including postage and custom fees.)Bargain! I got those from Nanjing University of TCM. Good luck, Tom. ---- David Gordon 08/08/05 15:05:17 Chinese Medicine Re: Chinese Language books on TCM Hi Eric (Brand), Tom (Verhaeghe), and others After months of searching, I've just found a website selling the (apparently complete) " Zhongyi Yaoxue Gaoji Congshu " and " Zhongyi Jichu Heshi Tubiaojie Congshu " series at reasonable prices - some bookshops tried to rip me off big time. Guest guest
What country do you live in? If you live in America, Niming Books in LA has almost everything and all their books are dirt cheap. Eric
Guest guest
Hi Tom and Eric Tom, the www.lovemandarin.com prices don't include shipping. The whole Zhongyi Yaoxue Gaoji Congshu is actually on the website, all 20 texts (22 volumes I think, since two are double volume texts). You have to click on the " More New Products " link at the bottom of the page to get to the full detail to see them all. Total price for all 22 volumes would be USD 255.05. Postage (1-2 months) would then cost an extra USD 255.05, making a total of USD 560.10. But this is still cheaper than anything else I have found to date. I tried China International Book Tradings Company, but they tried to charge me AUD179.30 (ie approx USD137) for the two Fangjixue texts ALONE, PLUS AUD73.50 for postage (for a package including two other sundry texts). I smelled a rip off!! I must confess, Eric, that I somehow forgot to contact Niming Books. I'll give them a ring this afternoon. A pity their website isn't working at the moment: www.nimingbooks.com. Tom, I did try to contact Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou TCM universities by email, but couldn't get any result. Partly because, though I am starting to read TCM texts with some basic proficiency, my everyday Chinese is aweful and I find navigating Chinese websites really difficult. I'd be really grateful if you could find the time to give me those university contacts, Tom. Five tdp lamps for EUR 400 sounds amazing - I know someone here in London UK who broke their tdp lamp recently and was having difficulty getting it fixed. At those prices he might be able to replace it. All the best - and thank you for your advice! Guest guest
David, the lovemandarin prices are the domestic prices- I remember I paid over 2000 rmb for the series, which is something like 255 USD. Their postage fee is rather expensive. Here are some Nanjing email addresses: njuiec njuiectcm guiqingzhang The former two will bring you to the secretary of the international training center, so they will understand English. The latter address is the email address of Zhang Gui-Qing, who sent me the tdp lamps. She hasn't replied to my last email, though. Her English is not very good, I think. But asking one of the secretaries to help sell you some books should also work. Mention the title of the series and publishing house (or cut and paste the Chinese title), perhaps a tdp lamp or two while you're at it... Best of luck, Tom. ---- David Gordon 08/09/05 12:17:41 Chinese Medicine Re: Chinese Language books on TCM Hi Tom and Eric Tom, the www.lovemandarin.com prices don't include shipping.
