Guest guest
Hopefully everyone on this list is qualified enough to make up their own minds on what is justifiable practice in TCM. I started out with Worsley 5 element style, being convinced by those teaching me that this was the an authentic system of acupuncture, only later to discover that the basic principles were correct as far as the su wen is concerned, but also learnt later that a lot of Western baloney was being passed off as coming from Chinese culture and history by some of the lecturers. Saying this I am sure this must have changed as our understanding of traditional CM has progressed. I have also tried to search the classics to understand more and looked at other styles of acupuncture. The old axiom now has since come to mind, the more you know the less you know, and in reality what a hotch potch of different approaches there are. In reality the proof is in the eating, what I originally learnt was at least safe, and to a certain extent worked. In the end I wonder how many of you long term practitioners are still purists and continue to practice entirely in the style you were first taught? In the end we learn from every patient we meet, and every new style we come across. The proof is in the success of our practice and the improvement in the well-being and health of our patients. For me the beauty and wisdom of CM is that I never stop learning, and sometimes I even find myself going back to the simple things I once learnt with fresh eyes. I am sure most of you out there end up after years of practice developing your own style which is in fact a hotch poch of many. I therefore will never decry someone putting forward their own framework, as long as it reflects the principles of Chinese philosophy, and it respects and honours first and foremost, the safety of the patient. We all have to start somewhere. As for using my e-mail address for off list advertising, the principles are very clear…… I agreed to be a member of this list, as I believed that those on it are professional and will treat my e-mail address with respect. So please don’t e-mail me with ANY off list advertising. I would rather read what is discussed within the group, and even on list one-off announcements advertising events and other people’s sites, but I certainly do not want to spend my time deleting and blocking unwanted spam.
