This magazine also exists in an English edition. Three doctors analayze a case and a Professor concludes. After the diagnosis has been made, a fairly detailed point selection is given. " Prof.Li:In my view,this obesity case is mainly due to imbalance of the liver, spleen and stomach, and her spleen deficiency, excessive phlegm-damp and dysfunction of stomach in descending are caused by hyperactive liver against the spleen and stomach. TCM principle of replenishing deficiency and removing excess is adopted. The treating principle for this patient should be to sooth the liver and strengthen the spleen for eliminating water-damp, promoting digestion and removing stagnated food, and removing blood stasis, so as to reduce the body weight and treat obesity. Body acupuncture combined with auricular needling can be adopted in the treatment. The Body Acupuncture The main points: Taichong (LR 3), Hegu (LI 4), Yanglingquan( GB3 4),Q uchi(L I1 1),W aiguan( TE 5),Y inlingquan( SP9 ),S anyinjiao( SP6 ),F uliu( K 17), Fenglong (ST 40), Shuifen (CV 9), and Zhishi (BL 52). The supplementary points:D azhui(G V 14),G anshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20) Weishui (BL 21), Sanjiaoshu (BL 22), Dachangshu (BL 25), and Tianshu (ST 25). Points on the abdomen: Shuidao (ST 28), Daju (ST 27), Siman (KI 14), Zhongzhu (KI 15), Shangqu (KI1 7),and Xiangu( ST4 3). Points on the butock: Baohuang (BL 53), Zhibian (BL5 4),and Pangguangshu( BL2 8) The method: The front and backpoints are used alternately, with 5-6 points selected in each treatment. The electric needling can be added alternately at Quchi (LI 11), Waiguan (TE 5), Yinlingquan (SP 9), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Fenglong (ST 40), Shuidao (ST 28), and Siman (KI 14); and Ganshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), Weishui (BL 21), Sanjiaoshu (BL 22), Pangguangshu (BL 28), and Zhibian (BL 54) on the back.. Warm-needle moxibustion is applied for Xiangu (ST 43), and moxibustion with moxa stick applied onD azhui(G V1 4),Z hongzhu( KI1 5),Ti anshu( ST 25) and Sanjiaoshu (BL 22). The reinforcing method is used for the deficiency syndrome, and reducing method for the excess syndrome. The needles are retained for 30 min. One course of treatment consists of 10 sessions. The treatment is given once daily for the first 10 days and then once every other day for the second and third courses of treatment, with a total of 30 sessions.
