Guest guest
A friend of mine has recently started having Anxiety/Panic Attacks. Sudden heart palpatations, feelings as if she is going to die and numbness down both arms. Severe enough for her to go to the hospital and consult an MD. She refused the meds that they wanted to give. Her mother-in-law practices some TCM and mixed up an herbal formula (her own combination) that has helped some. Treated GV20, HT7, SP6 and LI4. Received deep tissue massage that produced brusing around the shoulders. Resting heart rate around 100 bpm, blood pressure 160/110. I am going to visit her next week and see what I can do to help. She has just opened her own business, works a few weekends a month that involves travel (but loves the work and boss), two recent deaths in the family and concerns about the health of her parents. Not hard to find the stress in her life. Her diet is not that great, eating processed foods and only some friuts and veggies. Recently started having cravings for meat, grains and sweets. What questions should I be asking her? What recommendations for a treatment protocol? John
Guest guest
A very interesting and informative book that I can reccommend is " The Instinct to Heal: Curing stress, anxiety and depression without drugs and without talk therapy. " By David Servan-Schreiber MD PhD. Its not a TCM book, but he does advocate the use of acupuncture, and some of the background information on anxiety and stress states from a western medicine standpoint is very interesting. Worth a read. Guest guest
Hi John, Many years ago, I suffered from panic and anxiety attacks. Some things that helped me included attending a support group for that condition and learning about what my triggers were, and meditation. This was before I knew about acupuncture. If I had that condition today (I'm still prone to high anxiety, but I no longer get panicky - years of meditation have really helped me manage this well), my first choice would be to use the NADA protocol in the ears - it is strongly calming and allows the mind to function more clearly. Then I would look at what pattern imbalances she has and treat accordingly. There are many wonderful herb formulas to suggest, but first you need a diagnosis. --- John Urbanski <jurban40us wrote: > A friend of mine has recently started having Anxiety/Panic Attacks. > Sudden heart palpatations, feelings as if she is going to die and > numbness down both arms.
