Guest guest
Hey Nancy, > Hi Butch, > Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, my brother spent 3 or 4 years there in the 70's. We were there at the same time .. my tour was 72-75. > Wanted to go every year, but the kids were young, I could never find > the extra time or money back then. Truth is .. flying to Hawaii is pretty cheap. Living there as a tourist is not cheap. But dis ol kuntry haule boy learned how to speaka de kine whilst in Hawaii. ;-p > He always said it would cost hardly anything, and I could see Hawaii > like it really was. True it is .. for a native damn near everything there is cheap or free. I had a 12 month vegetable garden .. harvested bananas weekly from my own backyard and those who didn't have them in their yard could find the trees all over the island. We harvested guava and passion fruit and avocado and coconuts free .. harvested fish and crab free .. could take a bus around the island for a quarter back then. I rode quarter horses in the mountains of the North Shore cause I got down with the locals and was good friends with Graf Shintaku, owner/operator of Green Growers of Hawaii .. in Hauula. Took the deep-sea fishing boats for $80 a half day with 8 of us paying $10 a head and drawing lots for who took the first seat when a line went down .. almost without exception we all got to sit 4-5-6 or more times .. and came back with dozens and dozens and dozens of mahimahi and ono and wahoo and aku and this and that which we would have the first mate fillet for around 5 cents a pound on the way back. So .. visiting someone who lives there is damn cheap .. and living in Hawaii is damn cheap too even though rents are unbelievably high .. so are the salaries. > Know Your Smiling > Nancy > scents1 Yes'm .. best I can .. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
Guest guest
Good Morning, Sure wish would get our mail in order. Hey Nancy, > Hi Butch, > Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, my brother spent 3 or 4 years there in the 70's. We were there at the same time .. my tour was 72-75. >>> Think he stayed until 76, then went to Fort Lewis, Wa. I did get there 2 years in a row. First year I went, I drove back with him, then flew home. Its a beautiful trip. He stopped at ever think I could see except Yellowstone was closed both times. We didn't sleep much, he made those gates 30 minutes before he would be AOL. The next year I flew out there, we drove home, started going a different way, but the climbed back up the Mt Rushmore. It was a nice trip. > Wanted to go every year, but the kids were young, I could never find the extra time or money back then. Truth is .. flying to Hawaii is pretty cheap. Living there as a tourist is not cheap. But dis ol kuntry haule boy learned how to speaka de kine whilst in Hawaii. ;-p >>> Yes my brother knew the locals, thats why he could do stuff so cheap. Even though I'm scared to death of water, I taught him to swim when he was young. So he did a lot of scuba diving. > He always said it would cost hardly anything, and I could see Hawaii like it really was. True it is .. for a native damn near everything there is cheap or free. He would tell me about the beautiful beaches the tourest done see. I know he found the locals bars and resturants. The Swede in Him. Plus he is half Danish. LOL So .. visiting someone who lives there is damn cheap .. and living in Hawaii is damn cheap too even though rents are unbelievably high .. so are the salaries. >>>Probably like a lot of our states. > Know Your Smiling > Nancy > scents1 Yes'm .. best I can .. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com *Smiling* Nancy scents1
