Hi Kered,

Here is a very basic bath oil recipe, that can be modified till the cows

come home (as they say). I have a lot more recipes floating around here

- but I am still unpacking from moving and really busy this weekend with

holiday decorating and getting holiday orders prepared and packed up for

the customers. When I get the opportunity to post some more ideas for

you I will :)

Basic Foaming Bath Oil

1 cup basic carrier oil of choice (examples - sweet almond oil, jojoba,

olive oil)

1 cup liquid castile soap

Several drops of your favorite EO (examples - lavender, rosemary,

geranium) **

** Important note on the EO choice - be sparing with oils such as

cinnamon or peppermint. Although they are very popular scents that folks

like, your skin might not enjoy it so much. They are known to be

irritants and/or sensitizer - it is pretty much best to avoid using oils

with those unwanted characteristics ;) Also be careful of using many

cold pressed citrus oils, as they can be phototoxic, meaning that when

skin that has had those oils on them and is then exposed to UV light

(such as sunlight or tanning light) it can cause BAD pigmentation

tissues, from easy sunburns to nasty spotting! :(

So there are a few tricks to doing even the " basic " and " easy " recipes

correctly, but stick around, ask questions, and you'll be making great,

safe bath oils in no time :)

Ok, so I'm a sweet orange EO freak. Now that Kathleen has come out of the

closet, I feel safe to admit it...BUT...all I'm doing is using it to clean with.

My ENTIRE house smell mahhhhhhhvelous while and after I clean. I use it on my

mirrors, floors, counter tops, etc. It makes for a quick and pleasant cleaning

experience (is that an oxy moron?).

I want to use it in some skin care products I make, but I'm afraid to because of

the dreaded photosensitivity issue. So no matter how bad, bad, bad I want to

use this on my bod, the answer is I CAN'T. Is this true? If so, do I have an

alternative?

Hi kathleen:

Chris here can probably describe the difference to you better than I can. I

really like this stuff and it has less of whatever (can't think of the name)

makes you so photo sensitive. The scent is really wonderful too. Chris, are

you out there ? Need a little assistance here, LOL.

Jenn,

They are concentrated citrus oils that have the turpens taken out through the

distillation. They are safe for stuff that you leave on the skin like lotions

and creams. They last longer.

HTH and Hope I got it right!

I'm trying to remember all the suppliers that float in and out of the list and

not step on any toes before I start naming places. Already have PO'd most all

the soapers and suppliers in Arizona LOL

Re folded orange oil.

I am at a loss as to how Jen can say that concentrated (folded)

orange oils are not photosensitisers. I can't find any information

about if these extracts have been tested for skin safety or not.

There does not seem to be any information in the recognised published

sources. Could it be that some supplier has made a guess based on

the chemistry of these extracts? If the reduction of the d-limonene

in the concentration process removes all of the photosensitising

coumarins I am not sure. However, the natural balance of the whole

oil is so disrupted that only proper skin tests can tell safe levels

of use on the skin.

The main thing these extracts are intended for is for use in the food

flavouring trade where minute volumes are used. They were never

intended for use on the skin in the kind of volumes aromatherapists

use. They may be ok in a diffuser as part of a fragrance blend,

although the cost would be prohibitive compared to using a normal

expressed oil in a diffuser. I would not use them in my bath due to

unknown skin safety.

So Jen where do you get your judgement as to them not being

photosensitiers?
