Guest guest
Hi Martin, Thanks for the info. Always appreciated. It is nice to have someone so passionate about keeping us safe and unharmed! I think Jenn was just going by the commonly spread information and industry perception that is out there about the 5X orange oil. We repeatedly get so many half truths and mis-information from so many sources, including suppliers. It is at times hard to know what really is true and what isn't! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com aromamedical2003 [aromamedical-2] Monday, December 08, 2003 12:43 PM Re: Basic Bath Oil Recipe (Was RE: Hello I am new...) Re folded orange oil. I am at a loss as to how Jen can say that concentrated (folded) orange oils are not photosensitisers. I can't find any information about if these extracts have been tested for skin safety or not. There does not seem to be any information in the recognised published sources. Could it be that some supplier has made a guess based on the chemistry of these extracts? If the reduction of the d-limonene in the concentration process removes all of the photosensitising coumarins I am not sure. However, the natural balance of the whole oil is so disrupted that only proper skin tests can tell safe levels of use on the skin. The main thing these extracts are intended for is for use in the food flavouring trade where minute volumes are used. They were never intended for use on the skin in the kind of volumes aromatherapists use. They may be ok in a diffuser as part of a fragrance blend, although the cost would be prohibitive compared to using a normal expressed oil in a diffuser. I would not use them in my bath due to unknown skin safety. So Jen where do you get your judgement as to them not being photosensitiers?
