Guest guest
Hey Anya, > >But Bitch problems are worse. ;-p > > ha ha -- ya caught it! Couldn't miss it .. you might be surprised how many folks send emails to me addressed to Bitch .. being as the " i " is next to the " u " on the keyboard. ;-p > >> As you said, the post didn't say anything about inhalation. > > > >As far as my logic tells me .. the body has other means of disposing > >of inhaled substances other than the liver & kidneys. > > > >Martin .. you might need to comment on this .. but I can't imagine a > >case of liver toxicity due to inhalation. Well .. the old Limey Troll has come out of his cave and commented. And seeing as how when I answered this post .. twas 9:21 PM and I was late to the pub where a football match was on TV .. so I read this as ONLY concern about liver damage from inhalation of Methyl salicyclate. Course .. I'm not sure why anyone would inhale it in the second place as its one of those oils that works via dermal application. And still .. they would inhale it .. as is the case in massage. > >> Cannot find any references but, since inhalation takes the molecules > >> into the brain as well as the lungs, I don't know why I cannot find > >> anything. If it's that bad for ingestion, it's gotta have a > >> negative effect on some people on inhalation. > > > >Not the same .. inhalation, ingestion and absorption are different > >animals as far as how the body processes and eliminates. I know that the above was an off the cuff quick draw reply .. and still, even though Jen is not wrong in her comments below .. I think the above is still an accurate statement .. the body does process/metabolize in a different manner depending on the manner of introduction. And of course there will be some transforming of the chemical identity of oils or any substance that hits the stomach .. not sure if anyone here can say what they will be but its certain that stomach acids do affect the original profile of an essential oil. Jen wrote: > The liver and kidneys are the main organs for biotransforming and > eliminating blood soluble products - no matter how they enter the > bloodstream. And true this is .. while still I have a warm fuzzy that inhaled oils will be eliminated in a different manner .. that is, they will not task the liver as will absorbed or ingested oils. > Gotta disagree Butch. I *know* inhalation damages the liver. EOs (not just > the bitch and WG we're discussing here :-) are solvents, and I learned this > the hard way. Martin sorta covered the above .. so I won't comment on it. But .. who told you drinking hard liquor every night would harm the liver? Hell .. Kentucky Bourbon is gar-an-teed to not harm the liver if taken with a bitta branch water. ;-p > Anyway, back to my original query: I was asking whether the EOs damaged > the liver or any organ via inhalation, since I'm sure they DO, I was > just asking for some citations on the matter. I have no citations .. doubt if any exist. And as I wrote above, I saw this as asking if inhalation of Methyl salicyclate would harm the liver. Its possible .. conceivable .. that inhalation of an EO could harm the liver .. and its also possible .. conceivable .. that Angels have pinfeathers .. if they can really fly then they probably do .. but who can relate a true tale of liver damage via inhalation of EO and who has an Angel pinfeather in their museum collection? ;-p > I passed on the post the Lynn, one of the folks interested in the MS > toxicity issue, and here's what she wrote back: > > > Not the same .. inhalation, ingestion and absorption are different > >animals as far as how the body processes and eliminates. > > > >Yes, I had toxicology, digestion/metabolism, respiration and elimination > >classes. No doubt that some " vapors " can and do harm us. > >I had to stop working in a dental lab many years ago because vapors from > >acrylic mix used for making dental models and the solvent used for acrylic > >cement pumped my blood pressure up immediately. I can understand that .. folks in my hometown often became ill from breathing the vapors of creosote .. the town industry is treating cross ties for railroads. (SNIP) > Anya again -- EOs are solvents, and just one of the environmental > pollutant soups we inhale/absorb/ingest every day. But .. the fact that they are solvents has no bearing on this .. that's my take on it. Water is a solvent too .. its not a matter of is they is or is they ain't a solvent. > And Jen B roused herself from the flu stupor she's in to comment: > > I have the flu, and possibly pneumonia so I'm hoping someone else will > comment in depth on this (am SO tired) - but I wanted to say that yes, > liver and kidneys DO metabolise things inhaled - think glue sniffers. Hey Jen .. flu is a butt kicker but pneumonia is like getting run over by a Mack Truck. Had it once whilst on vacation in Tel Aviv and it ruined the vacation. If it is pneumonia you need to see a medico .. you know that .. if its flu they'll do little for you but pneumonia is not one to go away easily by itself .. be it viral or bacterial. > ------- > This is a good discussion and any info I gather on inhalation/toxicity > issues will be posted here. And there. And added to Butch's original > lengthy MS posts, which I have saved as a word .doc. Butch, are you > ever going to put this stuff on a website? Probably never. ;-p I'm laying low on most lists now cause I have too damn much to do. Trying to close out my company here in Turkey .. and that is a real bitch due to bureaucratic garbage I have to deal with. Trying to figure out what I need to do with my life .. and where I need to do it. Not easy to pick up and move from a place I have lived since May 1988 .. to a place (America) where there is nothing for me except a few folks I know. I'm more confused as to what I want to do now than I was a year ago .. and I've been working on details the entire time. My number one priority now is staying above snakes .. number two is getting this company closed so I can stop the legal larceny draining my pocket .. Turkish taxes that have nothing to do with profits. And then comes getting my website up to date and making some major changes to the operation of my American company. In the meantime, I need to have a toddy or two now and then and that creates a requirement to go more often to the toilet .. which makes me feel guilty cause I'm not working on all the above. ;-P > Anya > http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady Hoping all you folks have a safe and healthy New Year .. and 2004 brings to all of us better times. CY 2003 ended with a US economy higher than its been in two decades .. that doesn't give warm fuzzies to those who have lost a job but looking at the big picture we can say things have improved. The end of CY 2003 has been a real bitch on a domestic level as well as an international level .. threats of terrorism .. increased security (thankee Great Spirits for this) .. and certainly an increase in the potential for individuals in some overseas areas to become more than just targets of opportunity. Plane crashes, mud slides and earthquakes have ended the lives of tens of thousands and ruined the lives of many more thousands .. I feel for the people of Iran .. they are innocents who were already victimized and those who survived this latest earthquake aren't in the clear yet. Its cold there now .. mountainous .. exposure and disease will certainly wipe out many thousands of the survivors. Gives us all something to think about .. and if you're reading this now you probably have reasons to give thanks to something or someone .. be it the Gawds or your Lucky Stars or whatever. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch
