Well, yesterday I found the currage to made a new batch of handcream,

to replace the moldy dissaster.

When I went to the store to buy a new bottle of Clorex, I found to my

surprise that there was non to be found. Well, not very much

surprising, cause I live in one verrry enviromental friendly (and

aware) country - so I guess it's now considered a harmful product.

Instead they had something called " Javex " in a bottle that looked

exately as the Clorex bottle used to, and it's supposedly removing

bacteria. It contains " hydrogen peroxide " (jeezz, I realy hope I

translated that one right) soap, nonjonic tensides and " fosfonat "

(translating that word - nahhh, can't do). I used this stuff to wiped

down the entire workarea inlcuding the stove, laid out clean

kitchentowels allover, dipped all equipment I use in creammaking plus

the jars & lids and let them dry on the towels. Then I went along

making my cream as usual, with the exeption that I upped the Paraben

significantely. After filling the jars and screwing the lids on

tightly, I put them all in the fridge - and that one I never have

done before... But the cream have a very nice texture, feels good on

the skin, absorbs fast and smells good - whatelse is ther to ask for

LOL???

So now I just cross my fingers and hope for the best = that no mold

grown in these jars of cream. I have gone back and checking out my

recipes over the time and found that I have always made herbal

infusions one way or the other and used them without any problems

like mold occuring. I mean - I'm not exately a beginner in

creammaking and have been causious about hygien etc. and even though

I have used plantain and calendula in very many batches, mold have

never occured in any of them exept for the last three..... Well, I

didn't use any water infusions this time, intead I used rose water

and destillesd water (I never ever use tapwater, no matter how clean

it is here), and I refrained ;-) from putting honey in it. Now I just

have to label the jars and ship one of to my customer. Hopefully she

will get in a better mood when she smells the rosy scent and God

willing, this batch of cream doesn't turn moldy. If it does, I swear

I'm of making water based creams for selling for ever!

Now I'm taking Fiona out for her morning walk. It's sooooo icy and

slippery cause there is the tiniest layer of snow on top of the ice,

so I better watch my step. Some weeks ago I sliped and fell backwards

and hit my head so hard I saw stars and Fiona stayed guard over me

until I had collected my wits and managed to get up of the groud.

Don't want to get through that experience again ;-D Ohh how I long

for the spring!!

Fragrant Blessings,

Ylva

Here's what clorox is : http://www.clorox.com/science/rmp/how.html

Ylva, do you have a pressure cooker? I think that the heat, pressure

and steam of a pressure cooker will act like an autoclave and do a

pretty good job sterilizing your jars - no lids though.

I agree with David about the honey - I think it's good " mold food " and

would use it for immediate use products only. Sorry!

Hey, Ylva...

Was the Clorox buy on my recommendation about the 'dunking bath' for the

herbs and containers? I am very sensitive to clorox, and have had problems

with inhaling the fumes in the past. So Sweden has 'outlawed' it? Wow.

snipped your new production routine

there is a huge toiletries group here on . I used to be a member, but

got overwhelmed by the sheer number of posts. You might want to check in

there. When I looked in my old mailbox for the posts to get the sub addy

for you, I found the first one was on 'preservatives'! LOL. Guess I can

set you on the right track there --

http://health.1Toiletries/

I believe it is moderated, or at least strictly overseen. It would be easy

for you to join, do a big archive search using your keywords, and then pop

in and ask questions. There are over 1000 folks there, all dedicated to

making wonderful lotions, balms and stuff, and they are very helpful. I

know if anybody here could have chimed in more with a helpful hint or two,

we might have, but I guess we're too busy dousing ourselves with oils and

herbs :-)

PS After lunch, my hands still had some lingering onion scent, even after

washing. I put some of your " Ming " solid perfume on them, and they smell

wonderful now!

PPS I love the 'sending up a prarie'-- I have images of a huge chunk of

midwestern meadowland floating heavenward. So, it still retains its

'prayer'-ful intent, LOL.

PPPS the above snicker brought to you by Anya, who could probably never

learn Swedish if her life depended on it.....
