Guest guest
A point of thought here...I made my first " rice rock " out of a new box or package, don't remember which (over 3 years ago now), and a brand new cotton tube sock. Used it for almost a year and decided to empty out the old rice and lavender(EO). When I did I found worm looking things that almost looked like the rice in it. Now, I live in humid south Texas (near Houston), so don't know if something got in there, or whether the rice has microscopic bugs or what, but since then I've used flax seed. I buy it in bulk from an herb shop/ health food store near me. He orders it for me in 50 lb. sacks. It put it in a 5 gal. bucket with lid. About a week before I know I'm going to need some, I " nuk " the flax seed, then place it in a bag in the freezer. Then proceed to make the tube with terry cloth. Question here...mighten the oats have the same problem as the rice? Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated. Anita
Guest guest
Anita, I keep me bags in the freezer. I use rice. Microwave and freezer will kill any larvae that might be present in grain products. Actually 3 days in the freezer is supposed to kill them all. Learned that at the Farm Bureau. Guest guest
Thanks Jan! Sure would be cheaper in the long run using rice rather than flax seed.
