Guest guest
I post this with Chris, the list mom's permission. This is a letter written by my son Greg. This is very important to him and you will understand why it is important to me. Please give this request your consideration. Thank you. The letter appears below: MAKE A HAPPY MEMORY EVERY DAY: Evelyn Alternasense Skin Design Products www.alternasense.com<http://www.alternasense.com/> Many of you know my mother Evelyn. You also know that she makes no bones about discussing my medical condition. For those of you who are not aware of this, I live day to day surviving and fighting for my life against the disease AIDS. I have been living with this since November of 1997. In order to survive I require medications that are very expensive and unfortunately I do not have medical insurance. However there is a program that is a national program which provides me with my medications at no cost. This program is called ADAP or the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. Without this program and its assistance I would have died many years ago. This program is now in danger on a nation wide scale. The Federal Government has been cutting the funding each year for the past several years which is creating a financial crisis for the program. As of right now there are several states which are in danger of making cuts in service to people living with this disease. These cuts are coming in the form of reducing the kinds of drugs available, implementing a cost sharing or CO-pay situation, imposing a two year waiting list to get on the program and closing down programs all together. If this continues to happen people all over the country are going to die, including myself. I don't want to die! In order to save these programs I went to Washington DC this past week with a delegation of 100 people who either work in the HIV field, are currently receiving services from the program or are on a waiting list to get on the program in their states. We embarked on a task to appeal to our Congressmen and Senators to push for a $180 million emergency supplemental increase in the national ADAP program to help save and the lives of people in those states in danger of losing or restricting their programs and services to people who are desperately waiting of medications. This is not an easy task. But I believe that $180 Million is not a great deal of money if it saves the lives of people here at home. We have spent billion of dollars to fight in other parts of the world and now it is time to help our own people. I support our troops in their efforts, but we need help here at home too. Currently these states are in danger of having their programs closed or restricted. Alabama - Has capped enrollment, 247 people on a waiting list. Alaska - Capped Enrollment, 4 on the waiting list. Arkansas - Capped enrollment. Colorado - Capped Enrollment and reducing medication allowed, 190 waiting on the list. Idaho - Capped enrollment, Monthly expenditure cap, 3 on wait list Indiana - Capped enrollment. Kentucky - Capped Enrollment, 140 on wait list. NOTE*** In the last 3 months 7 of those on the wait list in Kentucky who needed meds and could not get them Died. North Carolina - Capped Enrollment, 126 on wait list. Oklahoma - Cutting drugs on the list, annual expenditure cap, 38 people have reached their cap and are no longer receiving medications to survive. They will most likely die. Oregon - Cutting drugs on the list, Lowered financial qualification to get on the list to 200% of the federal poverty level, imposed cost sharing. South Dakota - Capped enrollment, 49 on wait list Washington - Lowered Financial Qualifier to 200% of federal Poverty Level, Cutting drugs on the list, Imposed cost sharing. West Virginia - Capped enrollment, 28 on wait list. Wyoming - cutting drug on the list, lowered financial qualifications. People in these states are both scared and mad that their government does not view their lives as important and worth saving. Please do not let this continue. What I NEED from you is that you contact your Congressmen and your Senators and tell them that you are in support of this Emergency Supplemental Request. I have a form letter that if you would like I can email it to you and then you can send it to your representative. We need to get our Government to take care of our own people. I have fought to stay alive this long, I don't want the cause of my death and the deaths of countless others to be because my own Country didn't care enough. Please help me and the countless others across the nation to live. Sincerely, Greg
