cold process soap doesn't need any preservatives. nor do balms or

salves... ie, oils thickened with butters and/or waxes. no water in them,

so no need for preservatives.

 

any product that has water as an ingredient really does need a preservative

unless you are going to keep it refrigerated and/or use it within just a

few days.

 

I would NEVER count on essential oils to preserve a cream or lotion...if

you use them in a strong enough dilution to prevent the growth of mold or

bacteria, you are using them in too strong a dilution for skincare.
