Gall Stones and greens

One of the sources for gall stones is taking calcium with foods that contain

oxalic acid - this includes chocolate (as in chocolate milk) and some green

veggies. It is the combination. When taking a calcium supplement, avoid foods

with oxalates!

Years ago, I read in a old Adele Davis book (you have to be really old to

remember her) that women have monthly cramps because of a sharp drop in blood

calcium. At that time, there was a compounding vitamin company nearby. I

started taking their calcium supplement and, lo and behold, no cramps. One

morning, after taking the calcium for cramps, a friend came over with chocolate.

I forgot, ate the chocolate and within 15 minutes the cramps came back with a

fury....the oxalates bind the calcium so that it cannot be used. That

combination can get caught in the gall bladder and cause stones.

Also, if someone is on blood thinners, they cannot eat dark green vegetables,

especially broccoli, because they thicken the blood. My dad's cardiologist

always knows if he snuck some broccoli into his diet as his blood is thicker at

the time of his monthly test.

If there is any chance of heart problems, know that this dark green cocktail

thickens the blood. Take Baby Asperin, Garlic or other supplements that thin

the blood. Green is good but too much thickens the blood too much.

Thank you all for the information on psoriasis. I have friends with this and

this discussion is most helpful...

gratefully, Lynn Koiner
