Guest guest
There is a fabulous book called " Sinus Survival The holistic medical treatment for allergies, asthma, bronchitis, colds and sinusitus " 3rd edition 1995 (revised and expanded) by Robert S. Ivker, D.O., president-elect, American Holistic Medical Association. After I read this book, I didn't need antibiotics anymore. At the first hint of ear pain, I use garlic oil drops (I use St.Francis, 2-3 x per day, especially at night) Usually ear pain precedes my sinus troubles. I put cotton in my ears to keep the oil from leaking out onto the pillow. I take 4000 mg of vit c spread throughout the day(1000 x 4times) and echinacea tincture, 1 ml 3 - 4 x per day. (30-40 drops) Steam inhalation- in a sink use very hot, as hot as you can stand, water, with tea tree oil drops, 2 drops peppermint oil drops, and several drops eucalyptus drops. Put a towel over your head to capture the steam. Inhale for at least 10 minutes. 2-3 times per day If this cures my sinus problem I don't use the last step, but if I get lazy and don't do the inhalations often enough, I can feel it getting worse so I have to go on to the last step which is from Robert Ivker's book, page 71-72 Nasal Irrigation Mix together: 1 cup bottled water, lukewarm 1/3 tsp non-iodized sea salt a tiny pinch of baking soda " Use the full cup of saline solution for each irrigation (1/2 cup per nostril), irrigating over the sink, with the head in an upright position....Always blow your nose very gently after irrigating. " I use a small syringe and squirt the liquid gently up one nostril while holding the other one closed. It usually runs out both nostrils and out of my mouth. I like to tip my head back to hold the solution in there longer. I also tip it side to side slowly so the solution will run down the eustacian tube. You may hear some squirty sounds in your ear. Repeat this until the liquid is gone. He says " Of all the treatment options suggested in this book for curing chronic sinusitus, nasal irrigation is probably one of the most helpful. " pg 73 I agree, but the book is well worth buying. You can also use a neti pot for this. Also, the nasal irrigation works better if you do the steaming just before. I try to do this at least twice a day. I also take 1000-2000 mg of vitamin c every day to help prevent infections. Allergies and candidiasis(yeast) could be underlying causes. Hope this helps, Dianne P
