Guest guest
I have taken Synthroid or its generic for several years to treat hypothyroidism. I have recently started taking Armour Thyroid believing it is more natural and includes T4 and T3. However, I eat a 90% vegetarian diet and I am concerned about the fact that Armour Thyroid is derived from bovine thyroid tissue. Most of our meat supply is tainted by hormones, antibiotics, etc. Plus, I am appalled by the inhumanity of the slaughterhouse practices. I am wanting feedback on the best way to treat hypothyroidism. Many endocrinogists believe that the synthetic form is best and naturalpaths tend to believe that the natural supplementation is best. I am confused. Guest guest
Hi from a hypo! Actually, it's porcine, not bovine. Armour is pig thyroid, ground up. I can't take it because something in it gave me hives, so I'm on Thyrolar, a synthetic version of Armour, with T3 and T4. It's worked very well for me, but it does NOT have the T2, T1 or calcitonin that Armour does. Hope that helps! --M
Guest guest
I take armour for my thyroid. armour comes from pigs thyroid not bovine, from what I've been told its the closest to human thyroid. I cant take synthetics, so this was my next choice. I am up to 120 mg of armour. and doing very well now. we have finally found the right dose for me. I have been on armour since 2003. recently my pharmacy hasnt been able to get my armour since the manufacturer is reformulating it. I cant get 120 mg but I can get the 60mg. so they have me on 2 of those a day until my regular ones are available again. I did try the armour generic for 2 months and it messed up my system so bad,I got so sick, it took me 3 months for my armour to regulate me again. I just wont take anything else as I have felt great with it. so for me its the best choice I have made. Guest guest
I think the choice has to be made by how you feel. Everyone, every doctor, has their own opinion as to what is best. I know some people who treat it totally naturally, no synthetic and no natural( like Armour)..they use herbal suppliments etc. This is what i suggest...do your research, weigh all your options and then make a decision, go with it for 6 months, re-evaluate and see what you want to do then. Always check in with yourself and see how you are feeling. Also know that the thyroid disease is the " end " of a very long time of the body not being in balance. The imbalance just chose hypothyroid disease to manifest in the physical body. One must look at the body, mind, spirit aspect..in healing the total body. Good luck with your decisions. I send you CLARITY! :-) ~Amy~ in Missouri -- In , " ct0253j " <ct0253j wrote: > > I have taken Synthroid or its generic for several years to treat > hypothyroidism.
