Guest guest
anyone familiar with this plant based drug? Ibogaine was in recent news being studied for addiction therapy--alcoholism, etc. It is rumored to be the drug which cured eric clapton and one of the rolling stones of their drug habits. Recent research determined that this drug increases GDNF (glial derived neurotropic factor) which was shown in a now aborted clinical trial to be life changing for patients with late stage Parkinson's disease. the pharm co reason for discontinuing the trial was that 2 of the experimental monkeys developed suspicious brain lesions--something they knew prior to the human clinical trials and had been dismissed as a result of giving high doses of the drug and then precipitously withdrawing it--since the drug was VERY difficult and EXPENSIVE to deliver, amgen dropped the study --refused compassionate use and I have read, refused to sell the patent to several of the university centers that banded together and offered to purchase the patent. GDNF had to be delivered thru catheters implanted in the brain, with a reservoir for the drug implanted in the abdomen. Now seems there exists an oral drug that can increase GDNF and several reserchers have fractioned out the metabolites, losing the side effects of hallucinations. The drug is banned in the US and Britian, though clinics exist in St. Kitts (dr. deborah mash), Barcelona, Mexico, Belgium.
