Guest guest
Hello Desiree, > Does anyone have any experience with Oil of Oregano and side effects > it may cause....like diaper rash??? Let me start by saying that because you wrote " Oil of Oregano " rather than Oregano Essential Oil .. I believe you are using the preparation sold by North American Herb & Spice .. ex-Dr. Cass Igram's company .. or an oil from one of the many clones that sprung up after Igram wrote his book, " The Cure is in the Cupboard: How to Use Oregano Oil For Better Health " .. and began marketing it as the world's best cure for everything save death. If I am correct then what you have is a preparation of either 5% or 10% Origanum Essential Oil in Olive Oil .. not the same as the 100% Oregano Essential Oil you will get from 99% of the sellers of Essential Oils. These outfits that sell this use the term " Oil of " because their product is NOT a pure, unadulterated Oregano Essential Oil .. so the usage they suggest is not the same as would be the case with a straight up (neat) oil. Can it or any other essential oil cause diaper rash? Perhaps .. if applied dermally .. but you say that your daughter is ingesting it so odds are that it would not be the cause. > We have used it for 2 days at 1 drop at 1 meal. She also recently, over > 2 weeks ago, stared Lacto enzymes so not sure if it the combo or just the > Oil of Oregano. I am trying to help my 20 months digestion and overall health. > She was born without a spleen and doctors put her on a maintence dose of > amoxicillian to help her body fight infection and now I think she has > a yeast problem. Origanum essential oils .. be they Origanum vulgare, Origanum dubium Carvacrol, Origanum onites or any of the other Carvacrol rich Origanum's are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and to some degree anti-viral .. but they are highly concentrated .. the yield from a metric ton of aromatic material (depending on the percentage of moisture in the dried material) is 17-20 kilograms. Whether or not it works effectively when ingested is difficult to determine .. I know of no tests that have been conducted on humans to determine what occurs after the oil meets up with stomach acids .. but there is considerable evidence that simple inhalation of the volatile molecules has great therapeutic value and can destroy a laundry list of bacterial critters .. and there are no known contraindications. However, your 20 month old child has special medical problems so this is a different matter. I have a 28 month old son and I have allowed him to sniff Origanum when he had the sniffles .. but I would not allow him to ingest ANY essential oil at that age. My recommendation is that you consult with your physician .. or even a pharmacist .. they are generally aware of the effects of Carvacrol as an anti-biotic. I have a friend who is both a licensed Chiropractor and Pharmacist and in the past he has written against ingestion of EO by young children. Please do not believe all of the marketing hype that is out and about concerning the value of these " Oils of This and That " . True it is that Essential Oils do work when used correctly .. if that were not so then there would be no practice of Aromatherapy .. but in many cases marketers have taken the known properties of plants and assigned them to the distilled oil* ... this is often due to ignorance and sometimes to greed .. but in all cases must be careful to not waste our money on these so-called cures .. and even worse, to not cause harm to ourselves or others. * A distilled oil will have a different chemical profile than the plant .. this is due to separation of the soluble and non soluble chemical components during distillation. Does Oregano EO work .. you betcha .. when used correctly. Since 1995, except for aspirin I have not taken a single over the counter medication .. and except for one 2 week period, no prescription medications .. and though I do (rarely) catch a bug I can almost always deal with it in 24-48 hours simply by sniffing or diffusing Origanum and Rosmarinus officinalis, CT CIneole .. but I am not a child, I am not taking a synthetic anti-biotic and my immune system is very healthy. > Thank you for your experiences! You are most welcome and I wish the best for you and your daughter. I have a good deal of knowledge and experience with the Origanum's .. have written often and occasionally lectured on their safe use and I am a firm believer in the power of Oregano EO. I have many well-conducted scientific studies .. double blind tested and peer reviewed .. that support the value of this aromatic .. but I know of no credible practitioner who would recommend ingestion of this or any other EO by a young child. For many years I lived in Turkey and exported many tons of the EO .. I sell the EO now .. but I would not want to sell it to someone who intended to allow a child to ingest it. > Desiree N Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
