Guest guest
Does anyone know if it's o.k to take both SAMe and 5HTP? BTW, have been taking 5HTP for fibro and wanting to take SAMe for SAD. Earthmother/Pink

Guest guest
Here is a link to an article I came across in Life Extension magazine that suggests that it can help with fibro although, I really wanted to try it for depression. If it works for both, it's a win-win! Pink http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2007/apr2007_report_same_01.htm > So does the SAMe help the fibro? Guest guest
Just wanted to add a little side info here - if that's ok. L-Tryptophan was taken off the market some years ago in the US and several other countries. This happened because the products became contaminated in the production process and, sadly, some deaths occurred. Apparently about 95% of the cases were related back to one pharmaceutical company in Japan: http://www.worldfoodscience.org/cms/?pid=1000763 5-HTP occurs as the next step in serotonin production after L-Tryptophan. i.e. L-Tryptophan => 5-HTP => Serotonin Therefore I am not certain it is correct to say that L-Tryptophan is more effective than 5-HTP, since removing a conversion step, should in theory mean the opposite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-HTP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tryptophan Also - if one of these products stops working for you - my opinion would be that you might need to up the dosage, that the product itself does not provide the dosage level which the labelling claims, or that, if you are still experiencing depression, and the product is no longer working for you, then it's time to investigate other alternatives, of which there are many. In my own experience, depression is not just a lack of serotonin in all people to be cured by a single supplement. It can be a lot more complicated than that, both emotionally and biochemically, so that each person needs to spend time trying different things and finding their own individual solution. Hope that wasn't too long winded or highjack the thread. Love and light Sharon
