Guest guest
Fortunately tryptophan occurs naturally in turkey meat. So, when ever I need to sleep, I use either turkey or gaba and I'm out like a light. By the way, GABA is also used by body builders. It is gamma-aminobutyric acid. I is a prescursor to serotonin. Taking gaba at about 750 to 1,000 mgs., helps me to sleep at night. I am bipolar and it does not take a lot to throw me right off my sleep cycle. Hope that helps, Linda Bastida (Isn't it funny how many people die from drowning, but nobody tries to ban water?) --- On Tue, 1/27/09, sharonstrahan <sharonstrahan wrote: > sharonstrahan <sharonstrahan > << >> Re: 5HTP and SAMe > > Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 5:08 AM > Just wanted to add a little side info here - if that's > ok. > > L-Tryptophan was taken off the market some years ago in the > US and > several other countries. Guest guest
I took part in a discussion about 5HTP. For me and my neighbor, it stopped working last October. I was out of the country in November so I did not take it. Someone on this list assured me that this did not happen and to up the dose...but I did up the dose. Now I know the problem. I was taking 5HTP by Vitamin Shoppe. When it was working, an older batch I presume, it worked within 15minutes...and then it stopped. So, assured by a poster, I went out and got Solaray 5HTP, a good brand. Now it took about an hour to kick in but kick in it did. I took 400 mgs for the past 2 days and I am now very happy...the " Happy " mood that 5HTP generates. I think I will move away from this brand. I know there GABA stopped working by the summer of 2007. I may try another brand....and I will write to the company. They give an address and FAX #....Lynn
