Guest guest
Oh dear. I let this get too far- this is not the place to philosophize (is that a word?) about life, the universe and everything (other than alternative health.) We each drawn our own line in the sand- no one is going to change anyone elses " line " so can we all agree to disagree and discuss stuff that is more easily considered- like solutions you and I can do, on our own, in our homes- I am assuming most of us don't have stem cells in the fride. Thanks for peacefully understanding. DesertSkyNM moderator Lets be clear as well. A fetus is NOT a baby. You will NEVER be taken seriously if you throw in emotional terms as baby. The fetuses that are aborted can NOT live on their own. They are NOT sufficiently developed to live outside the womb. Their lungs have NOT EVEN DEVELOPED AT THIS STATE. Nor has their brain. SO LET US GET THIS CLEAR, AN ABORTED FETUS IS NOT A BABY AND IT IS NOT EVEN VIABLE. 3RD TERM ABORTIONS ARE NOT EVEN LEGAL IN THIS COUNTRY AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN USED IN STEM CELL RESEARCH. STEM CELL RESEARCH DOES NOT USE OR CAN NOT USE FULL TERM FETUSES. The whole point of embryonic research is to use embryonic stem cells and that means that they have to be used at a certain stage of development. You obliviously have not had any cell biology courses and are uneducated in this topic. Otherwise you would know the difference. ---- seashelll30 03/05/09 15:55:09 << >> Adult vs. Embryonic Stem Cell Research Let's be clear about this difference. We keep hearing stem cell research as buzz words around the media. We are making terrific strides with ADULT stem cells, already they are regrowing liver tissues, from liver cirrosis patients, and are regrowing tissues on spinal cords, that have been severed. Most recently, there was a story on the news of a man with Parkinson's, had half of his brain injected with adult stem cells, he had an 80% improvement in symptoms after 5 years. Now, after 5 years, he is asking for the other side of his brain to be injected as well, He said he was given his life back These are tremendous gains in scientific research, and there has been no moral implications. Nobody died, giving their stem cells. Embryonic on the other hand, has not shown any promise yet. Researchers are hoping it will, however it hasn't happened yet. The only way to get Embryonic Stem cells, is by killing a baby. You create life, to harvest the stem cells, then kill the baby. When you hear about stem cell research, please know this great difference, it is a matter of life and death. Sincerely, Gina in IL.
Guest guest
Adult stem cells don't work in all cases because they are less flexible than embryonic stem cells. The whole point to embryonic stem cells are that they are undifferentiated in that they can grow into any tissue. ADULT stem cells do not have that capacity. You have to isolate the specific organ cells then culture them in specific culture mediums to grow that particular cell or organ. Not practical in all cases. ---- seashelll30 3/5/2009 3:55:09 PM << >> Adult vs. Embryonic Stem Cell Research Let's be clear about this difference. Guest guest
Again, enjoy it tonight because it is being put to rest. Moderator I should hope no one is killing a beautiful baby for stem cells, if they decided to abort then use the stem cells but not for the sole purpose of using stem cells. ________________________________ seashelll30 <seashelll30 Thursday, March 5, 2009 2:11:44 AM << >> Adult vs. Embryonic Stem Cell Research Let's be clear about this difference.
