Guest guest
Hi Bundy, The belief that what we use as fuel for our bodies affects the acidity/alkalinity is a widely held view. When you consider that acidic foods leave behind an ash that the body must then deal with, it's not so difficult to imagine. There is a lot more to it than that, of course, but I will leave it to others more knowledgeable than myself to explain. -Raine Bundy wrote: Maybe so - but when one reads that you cannot affect the acidity of your body - only your urine - then how is one supposed to reconcile this with claims that you need to eat certain foods to change the acidity of your body? The claim was presented as a statement of fact - with no objective data or evidence in support of the claim. If the claim could be substantiated - I would be happy to consider it. -- Swap Your Paperback Books - PaperBackSwap.com

Anyway - it's not a widely held view - it's a view promulgated by some people - and it chooses to ignore the fact that there is no basis for the claim - you can't alter the alkalinity of the body. As for the food we ingest - our stomach acidity is so strong that we can neutralize it only for a short time - then the original level of acidity returns. That's the bodies natural mechanism for breaking down food. If we were able to permanently neutralize the acid in our stomachs - we couldn't digest food - no matter what it was - the acid breaks down the food. with, it's not so difficult to imagine. There is a lot more to it than that, of course, but I will leave it to others more knowledgeable than myself to explain. I don't know why people choose to ignore simple facts - namely - it is impossible to alter the acidity of the body - it's a fact - look it up in any decent reference. if a fact is a fact - choosing to believe otherwise doesn't change the fact - and all contrary discussions are simply fallacies.
