I found this on a website as i was searching cream of

tartar and quitting smoking:

" CAUTION: DO NOT use cream of tartar off of the

grocers shelf!! It has been irradiated and is

ineffective!! "

Any thoughts on this?

Yes Kerry I have a thought.....NOT all spices are irradiated in the grocery stores. Since most of us have cell phones I would suggest that when you find the cream of tarter, look on the back of the can for the company name & number & call them while standing in the grocery store & check. I did so with cinnamon & the company told me "no & that is was way to expensive to irradiate cinnamon & what was the point of doing so?" There is also a symbol that is required on radiated food packaging. If it is sold in bulk they are supposed to put a little sign next to the bin. It is a flower with 2 leaves with a circle around it, the bottom of the cirlce it solid & the top of it is broken. http://www.extension.iastate.edu/foodsafety/irradiation/index.cfm?parent=3 You can see it for your self about half way down the page.

Oh I'm soo sorry I must have offended all the critical people of the world. You dont trust it? But you would trust chewing gum or putting a patch on that HAS MORE nicotine in it and its probabaly not even going to work in the first place and you spend about 300 just for it. If you don't like the idea, then why are you on the list if you want to be such a critic about things? How can Cream of Tartar hurt you? Be reasonable.

I used to make grape jelly when I was in my 20's and I used to throw

it out when it crystallized. Stupid me. I did not know that was cream

of tartar.

Anyway, , I quit smoking about 10 years ago, used an herbal remedy I

made with lobelia, spearment, and a few others which I would have to

look up in my recipes collection. It took 7 hellish days but on the

8th I never thought of another cig. What I learned was this. No one

really " wants " to quit, it is psycologically fulfilling. Quitting is

like going on a diet, it is a commitment to endure pain for a period

of time in order to be able to breath, run, taste, and smell like you

haven't for a long time. The pain is unbearable, but won't kill you.

The addiction is not only from the nicotine, but the ammonia that is

sprayed on the tobacco to make it more addicting. At the time, I could

not blow a candle out three feet in front of me, I wheezed all the

time, & I smoked 3 packs a day of home rolled filterless tobacco. I

still love the smell of smoke upwind, but I have absolutely no desire

to stick one in my mouth. That was an accomplishment, Now if I could

only loose weight.

I beleive this is directed to me?? I have been killing

myself smoking for 15 years, to question cream of

tartar is pretty silly, but so far my digestive tract

is just fine.

I'd love to get the herbal recipe, if you can find it... :o)I'm working on a very strategic and heads on cleanse in one month, including the elimination of smoking (Been smoking 1-2 packs a day for 18 years already... wow has it really been that long?!?) which I am hoping will also lead to a permenant diet change... I'm skeptical about the cream of tartar, just because it just doesn't seem like enough, since it's been so many years and I've already tried everything before now. I HAVE to do it this time, though, because of serioous health issues at too young of an age. Anyway, if you can dig it up, I would adore the effort in helping me conquer such an evil!!! :o)Love and Blessings,~Raavenridgerunrbunny <ridgerunrbunny wrote: I used to make grape jelly when I was in my 20's and I used to
