Bulging disk - any advice?

Hi all! I have a good friend who is only 26 and has been experiencing severe back and sciatic pain (right leg) for nearly 2 months now. He had an MRI done last week and he has a bulging disk. They have him on all kinds of painkillers, which don't do a lot for the pain, just make him sleepy and fuzzy-headed (his job requires lots of driving - I'm worried about him as he said he's run off the edge of the road several times already!) What would you recommend he do? At this point they're looking at decompression therapy and possible surgery if that doesn't work... he'd like to avoid the surgery if at all possible, as he only has 3 months off work and then he's canned (even though his injury occurred at work... don't you love how companies treat their faithful long-time employees nowadays?!)

Would the deep tissue repair oil help in his situation?

Thanks so much!

Hi Tracy!

Decompression can be done at home by suspending your body by hanging from your hands with feet off the floor for 10 minutes at a time several times a day.

I have friends that have had the surgery and it is not very effective and there are horror stories being told.

My 46 yo son has the same problem right now and he refuses to do what I suggest so for three months now he has suffered.

The problem is to get the back muscles to relax, like in a sauna, and then stretch out. Some people will require accu-pressure on the tight muscles to get them to relax. This can be done by simply putting heavy thumb pressure on the tight muscle until it releases. Then you must stand with feet about shoulder width and then bend over and touch the floor. Do not bounce as that can tear abused muscles. You will know which muscle is the culprit by the associated high to excruciating pain level. Adding the deep tissue repair oil can effectively speed up full recovery. Doing this may obviate your insurance so be careful of whom you tell about the miraculous healing.

Find an acupuncturist, they are excellent for treating delicate things like

this. My back was hurt in an auto accident late Dec. 2003. I went through

a year of intensive treatments. Acupuncture is the only thing that

alliviated the pain. Of course the deep tissue massage was wonderful, but

it did not do near what the acupuncture did for me. I recommend it highly

to anyone who has not tried it. My acupuncturist is in the same clinic as

my chiropractor, who by the way caused me some problems. My neck crunches

now and it didn't before, he said it was degenerative. I say it was a bad

adjustment. Acupuncture is amazing and gets you back on track. Did me

anyway.
