I have heard of this before (I don't know when. I don't know where) so I thought

I would check with snopes.

I only found a single paragraph at snopes on the blood, I did find information

on the microwaved water. Snopes says FALSE about that

issue (who ya gonna believe???).

http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave/plants.asp

The link is mostly about the water trials except for the last few lines where

blood is mentioned.

ask a hospital nurse to warm up blood that is about to be transfused with

a micro wave and see what you learn.....blood that came out of proper

storage, needed to be warmed before putting it in the patient, they micro

wave the blood to warm it, the transfused patient died

, immediately..........microwave anyone!? Kraig

Got curious, so I did some searching - turns out

that the story isn't true. The incident did happen, but a jury found

that Norma Levitt was killed by a blood clot, not by blood heated in a

microwave. The link above takes you directly to the decision by the

Oklahoma Court of Civil

Appeals

Will give the link, but this particular site had a number of comments on

the story - several by what sounds like medical professionals. Here's

one: " Blood is NOT put in the micro wave to warm up before being

tranfused. The blood comes right from the blood bank, and started with in

1/2 an hour of taking it out of the fridge. A bag of saline is hung with

it. And it goes through the IV tubing and warms up by the time it reaches

the body. About 4-5 checks and triple checks are done by two nurses

before the blood is even started. this lady was in the operating room.

The blood was still brought right from the blood bank and started right

away. "

Came from:

http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/weblog/comments/3142/

which looks like an interesting place. Quite a

few comments on the microwave/blood story.

Snopes does a have point - what happened to one plant or seedling isn't

really a very good test - that plant or seedling could have been

compromised for some reason. A more valid test, would be to try it on a

number of plants and seedlings

I still have my doubts about microwaves, though. But, it would be

interesting to try doing the same experiment with a number of plants.

Perhaps when we get settled, I'll try it. Am very curious as to the

outcome.......
