Guest guest
REALLY? Is peppermint truly a repellant for spiders? Please say yes, lol. We have got the WORST trouble with spiders invading here! And, yes, we have the hobo spider and that spider bites us and welts up and well, it isn't pretty. It is a relative of the Brown Recluse if that tells you anything about what their venom does. I have been trying to find something that will get rid of these guys for a LONG time. NOW, with the peppermint, does it have to be peppermint EO, or can it be like peppermint extract, peppermint FO, etc? Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion Tammy. Its to late to plant any outside, but I sure can keep oil around any opening they might think about using. We have a large deck area and I think I'll buy some peppermint and drop the leaves down through the slats. I put several of these in my basement and they work soooooo well. I love them. They are these rather small " squares " that you plug into any outlet. They emit some type of ultrasonic waves or something that bugs, spiders, centipedes and mice do not like. They will leave in droves! And they do not bother cats or larger animals! I was skeptical, but I wanted my basement nice for my kids --and me too! You have to have one for every so many square feet (can't remember exacts). They really do work and I got them at Home Depot. I didn't want any chemical-type stuff and found those. I would be interested to see if anyone else uses them or if anyone knows of any potential health-related issues with them. I don't think that there are. I did buy a couple for my upstairs areas too, because I thought if they leave the basement and come upstairs I won't be happy. Never did happen though and the ones upstairs got unplugged so many times that now they are out permenantly. I say try them!!! Especially for those nasty spiders! Guest guest
I'm against killing things. Permanently against it. At the moment I have mice in my house. Much more than usual. I have cats in part of the house - otherwise they jump all over the place and break everything. The mice are in the cupboards, as soon as I turn my back they are in the food, in the fruit bowl, on the dining table, in the cupboards, I just went to the bathroom cupboard and they have demolished the cotton wool once in a bag - the bag has completely disappeared - all organic - they are in the stationary drawer, shredding the wrapping paper, in the clothes drawers, they eat through the mud brick walls, through the wooden shelves, they zip under doors into rooms and kitchen cupboards, the are in the rubbish, under the fridge, behind the dishwasher and the stove, they are in the griller, they climb down walls and up leads and cables, wires and shelves. I work 7 days a week and I can't keep up with them. As a homeopath I cannot have peppermint oil around the place - although I did put it in the cutlery drawer - but it made no difference at all. Please could you all just send unmouse vibes to my residence and ask them to go away - I - like all the friends' email addresses failure notices that tell me for the last week I am unable to post to my friends, have given up, as it appears to be a permanent error. Just letting off steam. Jane
Guest guest
Rodents are part of nature and you're either going to have a population boom or a predator may move in and kill them or they will starve at some point. Personally I'd set my cats loose on them, or buy a ferret. Or there's probably mouse repellent. Also some things to google or check out on e-bay: Ultrasonic mouse (repeller?) and copper mesh you can put in the holes in the exterior of your home. also maybe some natural scents that may turn them away. And "live mouse traps" are available. If you do get rid of them for good you probably want an enzyme like nature's miracle to take care of possible urine odor. - Jane MacRoss Saturday, April 26, 2008 9:35 AM Mice I'm against killing things. Guest guest
I know peanut butter works wonders. They may even like the natural kind better. And recently learned they're suckers for chocolate milk. So milk chocolate may work too. - Jane MacRoss Saturday, April 26, 2008 10:12 AM Re: Mice Thankyou Bill - I do have friendly little house traps - I have relocated 4 this week and sit here watching them running around the floor - I just can't keep up with them and sometimes get - moused off - Rodents are part of nature and you're either going to have a population boom or a predator may move in and kill them or they will starve at some point. Guest guest
We had a house that seemed over run with mice and had 8 kids at the time. I didn't want to put out poisons etc... So I followed the cat around and watched where she would sit and stare.... She was finding where the mice came in so then I would go to that spot and fill with cement or whatever I had on hand. It took the whole summer to patch up all the holes they were entering the house . Eventually there were no apparent mice in the house. I know that you are working 7 days a week. I hope you can find a solution that will allow you to block all their entry points. The smell of their urine is also a welcome sign to other mice. Any kind of gerbil or hamsters attract mice too because of the urine smell. Sincerely Barb M> ---- Tina 4/26/2008 10:54:34 AM Re: Mice Why is it that a homeopath cannot have peppermint oil around?
