Ayurvedic Activated MSM

 

 

 

Emmessar Biotech & Nutrition, Ltd., announces an entire new family of unique products, custom blended for your needs in formulating your own nutritional product. Two of the most obvious characteristics of MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) are that it is both a penetrant and a carrier.

An example of this can be easily tested by anyone.

The substance, DMSO is the raw material from which MSM is manufactured. In fact, another chemical name for MSM is DMSO2 -- the original DMSO is altered, structurally, so that there are now TWO atoms of oxygen instead of one. Thus, DMSO is similar in many ways to MSM (DMSO2).

You can take DMSO, which is a liquid, and put a small amount on the sole of your foot. It penetrates through the skin, and all other material in your body with extreme speed and you will "taste" the DMSO in your mouth almost instantly. The taste is normally not considered a "pleasant" taste, but it is certainly not dangerous to do this. The taste will be very characteristic of DMSO, somewhat like kerosene.

So, it is easy to establish that DMSO is a penetrant. A great deal of research has been done with DMSO because it has been around for a lot longer than MSM. DMSO has a very detailed set of research results. There is much, much less for MSM, but it is likely that many of the same results from tests of DMSO would apply to MSM.

You could do the same personal test with MSM, and get the same very rapid penetration, but because of the extra oxygen atom in this molecule there is none of the characteristic taste associated with DMSO. There is no taste from this method of application of MSM. If you put powdered MSM into your mouth, there is a characteristic taste.

So, we now realize that both DMSO and DMSO2 are penetrants.

(The scientific method of detecting this would be to place these two substances on the skin of some rats, for some period of time, then kill the rats and measure the amount of that substance in the blood -- or specific cells -- of the rats.) Next both MSM and DMSO are known as "carriers." Not only do these substances penetrate the skin, or cells, but they carry other substances along with them. This, too, can be measured with the above test using rats.

DMSO is currently under investigation as a carrier for other substances used in cancer treatment.

 

DMSO and Cancer

Cancer seems to respond well to DMSO. At Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, Charlotte Friend MD has turned cancerous cells into harmless, normal ones in the test tube by putting them in touch with the DMSO solutions. DMSO is routinely used by alternative cancer clinics in Mexico to transport laetrile intravenously into the body. Because of extremely promising clinical results, research is still ongoing on a privately funded basis into DMSO's potential role in the breaking up of tumours and the killing of metastatic cancer cells in its own right. Yet the United States Food & Drug Administration and the UK Medicines Control Agency continue to forbid the advertising and retailing of DMSO for any medicinal purposes save one: for the treatment of the rare urinary bladder condition, interstitial cystitis.

Numerous drugs dissolved in DMSO retain their therapeutic activity and their specific properties over a long period of time. DMSO not only maintains but strengthens and multiplies the action of the drugs dissolved in it, thus permitting the administration of lower doses than normally required to obtain a satisfactory response. In organ banks around the world, organs and tissues are stored and preserved in DMSO so that they are available for transplanting and grafting. Tissues such as red blood corpuscles for transfusions and semen for artificial insemination are preserved in this manner.

As a penetrating carrier of drugs, DMSO is unsurpassed. It easily carries necessary pharmaceuticals to any part of the body for therapeutic effect. It passes through cellular membranes and tissues. It is for this reason, among many others, that DMSO is properly described less as 'a drug' by those intimate with it, more as a new and little understood therapeutic principle. As Dr Jacobs reported to an assembly of the American College of Advancement in Medicine, DMSO is more effective when used in conjunction with other medications which it can deliver throughout the body with spectacular ease. This can occur even when DMSO is applied topically, and the other medication ingested orally or intravenously.

For instance, DMSO will carry hydrocortisone or hexachlorophene into the deepest layers of the skin, producing a reservoir that remains for sixteen days and resists depletion by washing the skin with soap, water or alcohol. DMSO mixed with hydrogen peroxide 9% solution has proven highly effective in the treatment of oral and genital herpes when applied topically to the affected areas. Periodic outbreaks of the virus have been known in many cases to cease altogether with regular application. (source)

Even though DMSO is not allowed for use in many human products, MSM has never been considered to have any similar problems.

You could do it yourself by dissolving some aspirin or other drug into the DMSO, applying that on a part of the body and looking, then, to sense whether you feel the effect of that drug in that area of the body.

In any event it appears that MSM, like DMSO, is a penetrant and a carrier, and that these characteristics can be demonstrated with relative ease and measured with scientific accuracy.

Finally, DMSO and MSM, both, cause the membranes of individual cells to become more permeable.

 

1) Dehydration & Detoxification - Sulphur is responsible for the ionic exchange within the sodium-potassium pump in the cell. Sulphur is needed to maintain cell membrane permeability. This is important to ensure that nutrients are delivered into the cell and toxins and other waste products can exit. A lack of sulphur prevents the transport of free radicals, chemicals and foreign particles out of the cells, which if not excreted can lead to many allergic reactions such as Asthma, ear nose and throat infections, hay fever, headaches, fatigue and gastrointestinal problems. This ability to penetrate and carry some other substance, then, is applicable not only through the skin, but within the body, into and through the cell membrane -- meaning that the substance being carried is carried up the cell wall and even there it penetrates more easily then if the MSM were not used.

Consider, then, that you are a formulator of some vitamin product and that you realize that your own product would be more effective if one of the ingredients would penetrate more into cells, or be carried better into the areas of the body where you feel it is best used.

As an example, Emmessar has designed some Ayurvedic Activated MSM for our colleague, Vibrant Life in the US. Vibrant Life sells an "oral chelation" formula where one of the primary ingredients is an artificial amino acid, well known in the trade -- EDTA.

EDTA is used as an intravenous infusion, and with this application 100% of it would be absorbed into the blood stream -- that is where it is "put."

But, when EDTA is taken orally, only about 5% of it will be absorbed through the tissues in the mouth, stomach and intestinal tissues. The custom blending of Ayurvedic Activated MSM, by Emmessar, would generally involve a thorough study of the science on the matter. So, the "about 5%" figure above should be actually pinned down to actual studies on this so that if a higher rate of absorption is going to be claimed for AAMSM, then the benchmark should be thoroughly validated, as should be the test results with the AAMSM. Simply by including MSM with the EDTA there is an immediate increase in the absorption rate. This would need to be tested with trials similar to those just referenced. Such trials would establish the first claim, that MSM increases EDTA absorption. They would then, also, serve as the benchmark for the AAMSM and EDTA blend.

This same concept then could be used for any ingredient, such as EDTA, where the formulator wanted to enhance the penetration and carrying power of some substance. He would simply add MSM to his formula to achieve this result.

Since all MSM is essentially the same, chemically, then a formulator could easily purchase his MSM from any source to achieve this purpose. Obviously any company, such as Emmessar, would much prefer to have some unique advantage over the competition.

MSM, of course, cannot be patented. Even the concept of combining MSM with other substances does not seem to be patentable. Patents have been issued for MSM, but they are NOT process patents -- only use patents. Emmessar could undoubtedly get patents on its unique discovery, but such patents are most often not nearly as good protection as a "proprietary technology" when such is possible.

But, if it is possible to FURTHER enhance the power of MSM to be a penetrant and carrier, with some proprietary or patentable technology? That would be obviously of great commercial interest.

Emmessar has done just that.

The Ayurvedic Activated MSM, all by itself, can greatly increase the penetrant and carrying power of ordinary MSM. This would be the basic form of AAMSM -- using the herbs of the Ayurveda to enhance these natural characteristics of MSM.

In due course this will be finalized as to commercial availability. Test batches are being produced now.

Using the same example of our colleague, Vibrant Life, the EDTA used orally has the effect, in about 5% of cases, of causing stomach distress -- gas, bloating, even diarrhea in some cases. Oral EDTA is very extensively studied and many of those studies would need to be carefully examined to be certain exactly what type of Ayurvedic component would be most appropriate.
