Guest guest
Hi, I'm a western MD who now almost exclusively uses acupuncture (studied at Nanjing Uni of TCM) in my practice in the Philippines. I am looking for online courses I could take to improve my herbology skills and came across the Institute of Chinese Herbology (http://ich- herbschool.com/) I was hoping to ask if anyone has had experiences with them and would like to share their comments. Also, if anyone can recommend other courses for me, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Philip
Guest guest
Hi Dr Tan, Nice to know you're on board. I'm a Registered Nurse 40+ years experience, a massage therapist for 18 years, acupuncturist 6+ years. I find Dr. John Chen's books very helpful. It clarifies the TCM VS. WM application. Take care. amy Philip Tan-Gatue <philiptangatue Chinese Medicine Sun, 4 Jun 2006 12:14:29 -0000 Institute of Chinese Herbology - advice? Guest guest
Gabriel: These are CEU courses, right. Don't you have to attend a formal college herb program to sit for the exam in CA and FL? Guest guest
Hi Anne, these are CEU courses, but the original question was on improving herbal knowledge not sitting for the CA exam. In my honest Opinion, these online courses offered by Bluepoppy and the Chinese herb academy are sometimes better than the actual didactic courses offered at many TCM schools in the states or in some other countries for what I hear. Guest guest
There is no requirement of any board exam or licence to practice herbalism. Taking the board exam gives you more intials after your name. Herbs I understand are a normal part of the CA exam...which I think is great. Guest guest
Anne states, " These are CEU courses, right. Don't you have to attend a formal college herb program to sit for the exam in CA and FL? " Actually Anne these are ceu courses or info if not interested in getting ceu for them. As for the second part of what you asked above. There are provisions for both the CA and NCCAOM to allow for apprenticeship study but herbs must be part of the curricula. I have seen that some people in CA have done this and passed the CA exam. For CA, you must have an approved plan before you start and includes objectives, material, etc. In the end, you still have to be in study for about the same amount of time and you have no degree. I kind of like the idea of having a formal educational background and lots of opinions to discuss cases with as opposed to just one mindset.Mike W.
