Hugo,

The CA BPPVE does list them as approved to provide educational degree of PhD.

Have not heard

any other info on them or their program. At least they are doing within the

state of their address. Mike W. Bowser, L Ac

Their website claims:

The Diploma of Acupuncture (D.A.)

Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (M.S.)

Doctor of Philosophy in Oriental Medicine (Ph.D.)

Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DOM)

At BBPVE website:

Institution Data Updated:2/28/2007

School Name: AMERICAN LIBERTY UNIVERSITY Telephone: (714) 449-9998

School Code: 3014471 County: Orange

Mailing Address: 1400 N. Harbor Blvd., Suite 120

Fullerton, CA & nbsp92835 Physical Address: 1400 N. Harbor Blvd., Suite 120

Fullerton, Ca & nbsp92835

The regulated programs listed below are evaluated as Degree granting

programs (as defined by Article 8 of the Private Postsecondary and

Vocational Education Reform Act), OR Non-Degree granting programs (as

defined by Article 6,7 and Article 9 of the Reform Act), OR

Registered programs (as defined by Article 9.5 of the Reform Act.),

OR Religious Exempt programs (as defined by Section 94739 (b) (6) of

the Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education Reform Act.)

Please contact the BPPVE if further clarification is required.

CURRENTLY APPROVED/REGISTERED/RELIGIOUS EXEMPT PROGRAMS:

(If no programs are listed below, please contact the school for a

current catalog of BPPVE-approved and BPPVE-registered programs.)

BS BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

DIPLOMA OF ACUPUNCTURE

MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

PH.D. BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

PH.D. TRADITIONAL ORIENTAL MEDICINE

POST LICENSURE STUDIES IN TRADITIONAL ORIENTAL MEDICINE

But the California Acupuncture Board website doesn't list American

Liberty University at all (under approved schools). That means none

of their degrees relates to practicing acupuncture/oriental medicine

in Califonria.

Chris,

My guess as to why that might be is that the CAB only deals with

the entry level Master's programs (required for licensure) and not any others

that might have post grad programs. If you will notice that

AUCM (has a PhD in classical ) is also not found

at the CAB website yet they have been OK by the state for their

PhD. Have you looked into this program?Mike W. Bowser, L Ac

Mike,

Exactly. Liberty began as a scam degree mill, and has scrambled to get

BPPVE " approvals " , which is not that hard. The basic idea is easy

access to status symbol degrees for emigrants. CAB " approval " is much

more difficult to get. The CAB's focus is licensing, or entry into the

profession. Liberty's " The Diploma of Acupuncture (D.A.) " doesn't have

it. Even worse is the American Global University.

Chris,

So who do you like of those PhD programs in CA? I know of several who used to

offer these like Yuin, Global, Liberty and recently AUCM. I think that of the

current PhD's in TCM/OM AUCM seems to be the best and most respected due to

Jeffrey Yuen and Kiiko Matsumoto being primary instructors. I would love to

hear your thoughts on this last one as I am considering it and have noticed some

grads for this program. Have you considered lobbying the CAB to inform the

immigrants that these are illegal/illegit programs? It would seem that they

could do this easily, although the Liberty one may be considered legit from the

CA state viewpoint.
