Guest guest
Greetings all, I¹ve only recently joined the list, and thus far have found the discussion topics interesting. Some of them were downright fascinating... Not to mention funny! My name is Kenny Wollmann, and I hail from Manitoba, Canada. Dabbling in herbs has always been a part of my life (I think I got it from my granny!), but lately I¹ve started looking into it more seriously. Having said all that, here¹s my first inquiry: What is the theory behind using the moon when making an herbal formula? Do you use it only when making infusions? What exactly are the specifics as to how one observes this ancient practice? Any other info will also be gladly excepted. Thanks in advance, Kenny, whose still getting over a wedding from this weekend :>)
Guest guest
Kenny, Making potions by the full moon is only a fraction of a highly complex story. To know when is best to plant herbs and to gather them is far more important than when you actually process the plant materials into a formula. For example, some of the alkaloid bearing plants need to be gathered at night to get the maximum yield in the plant, if that is combined with a full moon with sap rising all the better. First thing is to try and find a book that gives information on the moon planting cycle. Next is to learn which parts of the plant bear the chemicals needed for whatever purpose. Some of that you can get from A Modern Herbal by Maude Grieve. Guest guest
Welcome to the list Kenny! Great to have you aboard There is SO much to gardening by the moon and how the moon phases affect the growth cycles of plants and harvest times too - There truly is a science behind it all, not purely esoteric. A good place to start is the following web page, and it is a good idea to get a book on it! http://www.gardeningbythemoon.com Then on the esoteric level there is a philosophy of using the new, waxing, full, waning and dark moon phases for " spiritual blending " . This web page covers it in a nutshell ... http://www.moonshadows-realm.co.uk/mooninfo.htm Yet another subject you can get a whole book on Sorry I don't have more time to get into it all right now. I'm trying to catch up on my e-mail and I have to get the wee little baby person here cleaned up from breakfast (he's now at the age where he's feeding himself .... and the chair, and the floor .... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Kenny Wollmann [kwollmann] Greetings all, I¹ve only recently joined the list, and thus far have found the discussion topics interesting.
