Guest guest
Hi yaw...lol I am new to the list obviously but can already tell I will be very busy going thru the already-been-posted stuff. So much info, so little time! I am looking forward to see the going-ons here. ) My question is about using hops in soaps. I do make a beer soap and have always used ground hops in it, too. They are usually dry, brown, and brittle. Recently I ran across a local brewing supplies store and went in to inquire about their available hops. They had a particular type that was very high in alpha acids (12%!(. They are sealed a heavy plastic and kept in the fridge or freezer. And they are green!! but dry. Of course the guys in the shop use them in beer, not soap, and could not tell me anything about them in regards to the results in soap. Can any of you? Will they stay green? Will the higher oil content effect my SF? Can we just throw out some thoughts here? Purdy, please? Birdie
Guest guest
Welcome aboard Birdie, fellow soap making addict Ya know I've never tried the hops in soap, so I can't be helpful there ... but if you get those hops and don't like how they turn out in the soap - you can always make beer! (another thing I love to make! Just a hunch though .. I doubt the oil content will affect the saponification or superfatting of the soap - even with the higher oil content its not going to be THAT much in the overall picture (unless you are adding a LOT of herb to the soap). I wish you luck on the color experiment ... it is always nice to find herbs that will actually stay green (or whatever color they started out as) when put into soap. So far I find that parsley and dill have been my best stay green in soap herbs. Please, do keep us posted. I for one am VERY interested in knowing how this one turns out for you. If its a success you may have a new business in providing these super hops to all of us soapers :-D <grinz> *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com strobelanthus [b-a-c] Hi yaw...lol I am new to the list obviously but can already tell I will be very busy going thru the already-been-posted stuff.
