Guest guest
Hey y'all, There is no right or wrong answer on this issue .. though those who object think there is .. and those who believe in circumcision think there is. Is this not yet apparent from the discussions on the list? What we might miss is the unspoken anger that is probable but not being expressed on the list. Many mothers do not take kindly to criticism about their choice in the care and maintenance of their offspring. As of me .. I think its a silly subject that has been beaten to death and its not going anywhere .. except .. maybe into heated battle soon. Probably already there are feelings hurt. I was circumcised during my first 48 hours of life and I do NOT in any way remember the event .. or the pain. I've had no personal problems nor have I had a single complaint from sexual partners during a rather experienced lifetime. I have attended, as an invited and honored guest many circumcisions here in Turkey .. its a cultural passage to manhood here .. whether we like it or not .. that's the way it is. I have no personal knowledge of any person having problems from being circumcised .. though I'm not foolish enough to believe that there are none .. same applies to pins in the tongue and bones in the nose .. which some of you might have now. I think that is not only foolish but its unattractive and certainly not sexy .. leastways to me its not. But I think those of you who want to wear a gold stud or a chicken bone in your nose should go for it. I think that cosmetic surgery is normally foolish .. that too is the norm here in Turkey .. women who have the money almost always try to lose a few years .. and they have such surgery often. Of course, there are many good reasons for cosmetic surgery .. accidents being the most common but to correct emotional or psychological hangups is also valid and even accepted as such by the US Military Hospitals when properly referred by a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. So .. I reckon my point is .. mothers and fathers are responsible for making decisions for their children when the children are not able to make them for themselves. Whether or not they whack the peker is a very personal decision .. as are those on breast feeding and ear piercing and even setting a properly nutritious meal on the table. Good it is maybe to give our personal opinions about whacking pekers and bones in the nose and having a good meal vs a Big Mac .. but maybe we should keep in mind that such discussion can create hard feelings .. simple as that. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch
