Guest guest
I have a HUGE Gardenia bush in the front of my house. It's as tall as my house and very wide. The gardenias have finally started to bloom!! Whoo hoo!!! Last year I made a gardenia infusion by going out with gloves and plucking all the petals off of my bush (tree) At that time I probably had about 600+ petals. I put them in a big bowl of Olive Oil and covered the top with cheesecloth. I put them out in the sun for two weeks. If the petals started turning brown, I would take those out and replace them with more petals. I was told the cheesecloth on top was there so that the petals could evaporate and not ruin the oil. By the end of the two weeks the oil smelled more like overly sweet bananas. I used the oil in my Gardenia soap and it was fantastic. I want to do this again this year and I've already seen at least over 400 flowers alone about to bloom, so I am going to have a LOT of petals to pick!! Am I doing this right? Is this the best way to get the gardenia oil? Should I use a different oil than Olive? Thanks for everyone's help!! Now, I just gotta keep watching my bush!!
