Guest guest
I distrust just about anything that comes out of the French essential oil and cosmetics trade. They are the worlds biggest adulterators of essential oils. Their cosmetics trade are packed to bursting with unjustified so called " clinical research " ie. use our magic new face cream and it will make you 5 years younger backed by our clinical research! I even distrust some of the smaller oil producers knowing what I do about the way they fiddle their oils. A friend here tried suing one lavender farmer/distiller and got nowhere because the French courts are geared to protecting their own Nationals only. In the case of the Monoi extract I have here copies of research which came from a French supplier. Superficially they look impressive until one looks at the detail and find the claims do not stand up to scrutiny. For example: " The buds are covered with a gum used as a masticatory or, softened in alcohol, can be applied on sores and atonic ulcers " . So the buds macerated in alcohol were what was used to treat ulcers NOT the flowers extracted in coconut oil as their literature claims. I love refined coconut oil as some on this group know and I would bet most of the healing properties of Monoi are from the coconut itself. To that one has to add the fact that it is so easy to add a synthetic perfume to coconut extract. The French would not do that would they? Bear in mind some of the producers in the South Pacific are still tied up with French fragrance houses. University research in France only rarely finds its way into the International scientific journals where it can be scrutinised. Some of that is very good indeed, however anything connected with a commercial supplier of product is likely to be slanted at selling product. Their sales techniques then get sucked in by Americans and by many in the UK who assume any natural extracts from France must be wondeful. They are not and are often worse than from other countries. The French connection is what is responsible for a vast amount of crap that has become endemic in aromatherapy over the years and is responsible for corrupting a wonderful therapy and the minds of its practitioners.
