Guest guest
Butch, this is interesting.. ...<< two years ago I visited a company in Maryland called Tobacco Technologies, Inc. .. they had a very large operation and shipped 55 gallon drums of this and that EO blend out to cigarette manufacturers all over the world .. Communist China included. And they had (in 2000) done consulting work with the Turkish cigarette monopoly (Tekel) to spruce up their cigarette brand " 2001. " This is not unusual at all .. same for many cigar brands .. and teas. At Tobacco Technologies everybody smoked .. they had conference smoking rooms where experts were trying out this and that blend .. at least a dozen chemists working there. >> Do you know what EO's they added ? Guest guest
Hi Akiko, > What does YL add to the oils so that so many people claim they've > never smelled such wonderful oils? Hard to say that they are adding anything .. but if they are adding chemicals they are doing a balancing act with Linalool and Linalool acetate .. to try to get a 40/42 balance .. which is what professional perfumeries want but know they can't get year after year due to the variables beyond the control of growers or distillers .. so they do their thing in a lab. But perfumeries want consistency in their products and that is understandable. That is the definition of a Commercial Grade oil .. the other type can be called anything I guess but the normal handle is Aromatherapy Grade .. we walk on thin ice methinks when we start talking about Therapeutic Grades (more on that later) because we are not medical doctors .. so what the hell are we treating? Are we prescribing and peddling therapeutic products? We are in most cases but I am not going to blatantly make sure a claim. Its not impossible to create that 40/42 balance with natural chemicals but it is unusual due to the inexpensive synthetics available. Graham mentioned something about Lavandin in another post .. I recall that information .. someone had seen it growing and tested it .. but I didn't keep the information. > Reminds me of a lawsuit (I think in NC?) against a tobacco company > adding addictive chemicals to their products. Some were increasing the amount of nicotine to assist the addicts. Personally, I prefer Wild Turkey 101 proof (50.5 alcohol) cause I get more bang for the buck. I can remember when it was a mellow 12 years old .. now they just add a bit less water methinks. ;-) > My old friend told me that the brand he was smoking smelled like > brandy when opening the box, and he thought that's how the brand > gets loyal customers. I wonder if that's what YL's doing. Maybe .. Gary Young is not gonna lose a buck .. though some of the farmers he has contracted with in the past have.
